Coco-Mat Hotel Nafsika puts a large emphasis on relaxation, as their mattresses are world famous for their comfort, since they are made using "100% natural materials," and they do not have springs. They offer both standard rooms and suites and guests can even select the type of pillow they prefer. The hotel has a restaurant on-site serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as an "honesty bar" in which guests make their own drinks. They also have bicycles available for exploring the surrounding area and an herbal garden to relax in. The hotel is located about a 23 minute drive from the city centre.
Athens Beach for May
Kalivia Beach has become popular among tourists and locals alike and can be quite crowded on the weekends. Pine trees and other plants come right up to the sandy, but mixed with pebbles, beach, which faces crystal clear water. The water is calm, as the beach is protected from wind, making it a great swimming area. Facilities like changing areas and toilets can be found here as well. Located just off of the beach is Boa, which serves coffee, breakfast, homemade sandwiches, and larger dishes like pastas and burgers. They also have a full bar. Kalivia Beach is located about a 38 minute drive from the city centre.
Due to its location (about 20km from Athens), Kavouri Beach is usually crowded, especially during the summer months. The beach is made up of sand and pebbles, and its clean water makes for a nice swimming area. There are facilities right on the beach and places to rent sunbeds and umbrellas as well. Certain parts of the beach have coves to be explored and greenery for natural shade. Numerous cafes offering both food and drink line the beach, but for a more "formal" meal, check out Naxos Restaurant. They serve traditional Greek dishes and having seating available on the beach. Kavouri Beach is located about a 23 minute drive from the city centre and is serviced by public city buses.
Bars and Restaurants
If you are in search of a healthy meal, head to Avocado. They serve a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, and even paella, all prepared without preservatives or artificial ingredients. They also offer fruit juices, smoothies, and desserts. Avocado is open from 11 AM to 10 PM on Monday through Saturday, and from 11 AM to 7 PM on Sunday. They are located about a four minute walk from the city centre.
For a traditional Greek meal, visit Lithos restaurant. The interior of the restaurant has a rustic décor and there are two floors of seating areas, as well as an outdoor area for dining. They serve freshly made Greek dishes like a Cretan marathon pie, Myconos Loyza, stuffed mushrooms, and meat dishes like beef filet, lamb, and grilled pork. They also offer salads, seafood, and pastas in addition to having live music every day. Lithos is about a 13 minute walk from the city centre.
Things to do in Athens in May
The National Archaeological Museum was founded in the late 1800's and is the biggest archaeological museum in all of Greece. The purpose of the museum is to host and conserve ancient artifacts and art (some dating back to prehistoric times) from various parts of Greece. There are five permanent collections which display things like ancient Greek sculptures, pottery, and figurines. They also have temporary exhibits, such as "Myth and Coinage," which displayed ancient coins and their relationship to mythology. The museum is open from 1 PM to 8 PM on Mondays, and from 9 AM to 4 PM on Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is 7 and they are located about a 22 minute walk from the city centre.
The Flisvos Marina is relatively new as it was established in 2002. It was rebuilt in order to provide first-class facilities, as well as to be able to host yachts and mega yachts. Visitors to the marina will find a variety of options for things to do, such as jogging or cycling areas, a sailing school, play areas for children, an open-air cinema, as well as cafes and restaurants. There are also boat trips that explore surrounding Greek islands. The marina is about a 10 minute drive from the city centre and is also serviced by local buses.
