What's the Weather like in Algarve in April
April is a good time to visit the Algarve for those who prefer modest warmth. At Faro close to the Atlantic coastline, the long-term average maximum temperature is 20°C, while the temperature falls just below 12°C during an average night and frosts are entirely absent.
Throughout the month of April the average temperature is 16°C and the average low temperature is just 11°C. There are many days which only require a T-shirt and shorts, but it still wise to bring along a light coat and trousers incase there are any cool evenings.
With an average of 252 hours of bright sunshine at Faro, typical daily sunshine durations in the Algarve are in the range of eight to nine hours compared to January and February, which recieve on average just five to six hours of sunshine per day, with the most reliably sunny weather generally found near the coast.

In April the humidity levels are gradually starting to decrease. In this month the average humidity is around 65% to 75%, compared to December, where humidity levels can reach 85%. Bare in mind the humidity levels tend to rise once the overall temperature starts to decrease.
The most comfortable periods in the year are between January 1st and July 13th, where the air feels neither too dry nor too muggy during this stretch of time. As April is in the middle you can expect a comfortable warm temperature while staying in the Algarve.
The sea temperature off the coastline starts to creep up at this time of year, but averages only 16°C during April, which is rather chilly for swimming in. However, if you were to compare the temperature to July there is not a great contrast as the sea temperature gradually rises and averages at about 20°C.
This time of year is appropriate for a variety of activities including hiking, cycling, horse riding, golf, surfing and sightseeing.

Memmo Baleeira Hotel at Sagres has high-quality accommodation and facilities and is particularly recommended to those who would like to try surfing, as there are surfing facilities nearby.
Herdade da Corte
A less expensive option is the Herdade da Corte hotel at Santa Catarina Da Fonte Do Bispo, Tavira, which contains a lounge bar, a swimming pool and a relaxed atmosphere.
There are also some good budget options, including the three-star Velamar Hotel at Olhos d'Agua, Albufeira, which features a restaurant, bar and outdoor swimming pool.
Self-catering accommodation options include the modern Praia Village at Vilamoura. This modern apartment is located in a quiet residential area and can sleep up to four people in two air-conditioned bedrooms.
Beaches for April for Algarve
Ilha de Culatra
April is quite a good time of year to hit the beach, since the beaches are not generally as popular as during the summer months. Although, during fine spells the weather can be quite conducive for sunbathing and relaxation. Ilha de Culatra is an island situated off Olhao and contains a wide range of facilities including villages, a mini market, fishing outlets, and pleasant beaches for sunbathing.
Praia de Amoreira
On the Portuguese mainland, Praia de Amoreira near Aljezur is close to a good restaurant and children are likely to be kept entertained here due to numerous rock pools along the beach.
Praia de Falesia
On the other hand if you want a safe, sheltered beach you may want to try Praia de Falesia, which gets its name from the gouged red cliffs that form a backdrop to the beach. These large cliffs act as a barrier against any northern winds during the season, which makes it ideal for those who want to sunbathe on a hot day.
Restaurants and Bars for Algarve in April
There are many good restaurants available in the Algarve, catering for almost all tastes. Fans of Indian restaurants can consider Saffron at Praia da Luz, which is particularly good for tandoori and also has an outdoor patio area overlooking the sea.
For those after a relatively light snack, high quality nibbles are served at the Il Cappuccino café at R. Quinta da Correira, Albufeira, alongside a selection of main courses.

Those interested in walking and hiking can consider the scenic Alvor Boardwalk at Alvor, Portimao, which is well-received by most tourists, boasting spectacular views along the sea front and also leads to numerous good restaurants.

There are also some good entertainment parks in the Algarve and with the weather being reliably dry and sunny at this time of year, water parks are a good way to cool off and have fun. Aqualand at Sitio das Areias - Apartado 11, Alcantarilha offers rapids, a crazy leap, a helter-skelter-style "crazy race" and a mega slide, among other attractions.
Slide & Splash
The other two main choices are Slide & Splash, which boasts a helter-skelter and reptile shows and a "tornado" slide or Aquashow Park, which has a water roller-coaster. While the water-based entertainment at all three parks is mostly highly rated by customers, note that the dining facilities receive mixed reviews, so it may be worth bringing your own lunch.
