Pemba and Zanzibar, Tanzania
Africa's east may be more known for its "Big Five" than fishing opportunities, but don't be swayed, because the ocean waters house an amazing array of rare fish. Pemba, an island 31 miles north of Zanzibar, offers a real getaway experience, as it is the lesser-known tourist attraction. Here, with the help of willing local captains, you'll enjoy peace and quiet as you test out your lures for blue and black marlin and even hammerhead shark (though the fishing laws are shady when it comes to shark fishing).
The busier locale of Zanzibar offers equally unique fishing. Amazingly, the prospect of a great catch makes most gravitate away from the beach; they board the boats for the chance to bring in a yellow fin tuna or striped marlin. Whichever spot you choose, you'll be guaranteed great weather, a memorable experience and some great seafood.Must-do: Board a sport-fishing boat for some high-speed angling action on the high seas.
