In a country where cycling is revered as much as soccer, you'll be able to ride at the sport's epicenter. The region of Tuscany is home to many of Italy's famous sights, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, where you can start your journey. An organized 16-day, 720-mile tour on a single or tandem (two-seater) bicycle will take you through farmlands, winding roads, scenic towns, and several vineyards.
The actual ride is quite easy -- the true test lies in resisting the smells of so many great restaurants as you cycle by. Actually, if you spread out your journey and travel without going on a tour, you'll have a great opportunity to appreciate some great art, architecture and the general culture of the whole area. The early fall -- specifically September and October -- is a great time to visit, and, as a plus, the volume of tourists will not be too high.Must-see: The great piazzas in beautiful Florence.
