The Swiss Alps
One of the most challenging routes on this list, the paths through Switzerland?s spectacular mountains and valleys will blow you away. Though the lay of the land may prove difficult to ride, the views will more than ease your tired muscles. Organized tours take off from Appenzell, Switzerland and do a loop through the hills, and then cross the Italian border before returning to the same spot.
A two-week journey, tours usually leave in the summer months so you get the most unobstructed sights of Switzerland's 48 peaks over 4,000 meters. The great Swiss food, culture and chocolate will also be within reach each night as you rest up after a daily 75-mile ride. For those who love testing themselves and love the magic of the Alps, this is the ideal bike trip, especially in July and August.Must-see: The incredible panoramas of the Bernese Alps (aka Bernese Oberland).
