North Sea Route - France to Holland

If you want solitude, time to explore, and postcard-worthy views, the trip from France to Belgium and then Holland is for you. Despite crossing three idyllic nations and having the North Sea and great beaches close by, this route is not frequented by many tourists, nor does it offer any organized tours. You can take advantage of the peacefulness of biking through small European hamlets uninterrupted, and then enjoy rolling over sand dunes and coastal lands.

The total length of the trip is an intimidating 250 miles, but after purchasing a guidebook of the area and mapping out a trail -- as is recommended -- the task should seem less daunting. The bike routes are not greatly obvious at first, so have your itinerary handy at all times. If you start in Boulogne, France, and finish in Den Helder, Netherlands, the trip will last six to 10 days and is guaranteed to be one you never forget.

Must-see: The city of Amsterdam of course, at route's end. Link to Weather Back to activities
