German Alpine Road - Austria to Germany

Using this well-known European route, a biker of any caliber will be able to negotiate the scenic ride along the German and Austrian Alps. Though you are nestled between beautiful mountains, the ride is quite smooth and consists of rolling valley terrain at its most difficult. Starting out in Salzburg, the route veers from bike paths to public roads, and you'll pass picturesque lakes, rivers and mountain resorts on your way to Munich. It is best to do this several-day tour between May and October, when the weather and conditions are optimal. There are no official bike tours for this path, but a lone biker can easily find his way by reading road signs and asking pedestrians, who are notoriously friendly.

Must-see: "Mad" King Ludwig II's three ornate castles, which dot the route in Bavaria. Link to Weather Back to activities
