Enough hotels, apartments, restaurants, taverns, and shops remain open to accommodate visitors and the Mediterranean climate is still mild and pleasant. Even swimming is still possible as the water remaining warm. The island will be yours to commune with the residents and enjoy a solitary and quiet time at this beautiful locale.

Zante, Greece begins to show diminishing  weather conditions. The thermometer shows temperatures averaging 16ºC (61ºF) and an average high of 19ºC 66ºF) and average low of 12ºC (47ºF), a significantly less than the previous month.. Evenings are getting chilly. The highest recorded November 1st temperature was  25ºC (77ºF) in 2008 and and a low, of 7.7ºC (46ºF) in 1998.

The November dew point, a better measure of comfort per person, increases from the previous month, so the air feels like 13ºC (55ºF) on average with a high of 19ºC (66ºF) and a low of 6ºC (43º) so there is no discomfort from heat and humidity. The average relative humidity is 76% which is still comfortable.

The wind is minimal, averaging only about 6 mph but with an occasional gust of 27 mph. The winds increasingly come from north.  Rainfall days are 10 with a total of 6 ¼ inches.

There are approximately 5 daily sunshine hours and visible daylight jumps  to an average of  hours. Some days November be slightly to partially cloudy. The November average sea temperatures are starting to cool to 20º C (68ºF), slightly chilly but still decent swimming.

November may be the time to enjoy real Greek living as the island residents with uncrowded  beaches and restaurants but with still many of things to do.

Where to Stay

The Anna Koralli Studios in Laganas, is a self-catering accommodation on the beach. The terrace overlooks the garden and the sea, with Cameo and Marthonisi islands in the distance. The veranda is shaded by a pergola and surrounded by trees and flowers. The rooms are beautifully decorated with room for families or friends up to nine people. Each unit has two bedrooms, a television and a well equipped kitchenette with refrigerator and stove. Shops, restaurants, and bars are practically next door.

The Pettas Apartments in Zakynthos town is located near the centre of the city. Owned by the brothers Panos and Iannis, the building has been recently renovated. The stone terrace, with it's barbecue facilities, is next to a palm-tree garden. The accommodations are self-catering with and feature iron beds and wooden ceilings. Each unit includes a kitchenette and a small dining area. Some units include a bathroom and shower, while others share one, European style.

The Zakynthos Villas, set on the hillside in Vasilikos, is a stone-built hotel with pool and a mountain or ocean view from its balconies or terrace.  Beautiful adorned with wood beamed ceilings and antique furnishings, the villa boasts three bedrooms, three living rooms, a dining area a full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher. Laundry facilities are available.

Things to Do

For a family friendly destination on rainy days, visit Bowl'm Over off the main strip in Tsilivi, a good place to spend rainy days. There is mini golf, pool tables, air hockey and table football. The prices are affordable, the music is good and, it is near many restaurants.

The Jewish Cemetery , located in the Rouveli area near Bohali, is a tribute to both the former Jewish residents of the island and the two men who saved them from the Nazi's who occupied the island during World War II. When asked for a list of names, the island official Loukas Karrer and Bishop Chrysostomos refused, supplying their names instead. During the confusion, the Jewish islanders were hidden in remote villages until the German army withdrew from the island in October,1944. A plaque at 44 Tertseti Street commemorates the heroism of these two men. In 1948, in recognition of the heroism of the Zakynthians during the Holocaust, the Jewish community donated stained glass  window to the Church of Saint Dionyssios.

The Monastery of Panagia Skopiotissa, about 2 ½ miles from Argassi, will take you back to another time. Located in a beautiful setting, it is a peaceful experience and the chapel  and frescoes is awe inspiring . It is a place of peace, harmony and unity with nature and God.

Hit the Beach

Port Limnionas is located near the village of Agios Leon which remains mostly untouched by the general tourism to pervades the island. Travel down a heather lined country road to the coast and park at the top of the bay before hiking down a path carved from the rock There you will get a view of many small caves and a beach that is pebbly and surrounded by rock face of white stone.

About 9 miles from Zakynthos town is the small Plaka Beach close to the village of Vassilikos, at the tip of the Vassiliklos Penisula. It is essentially undeveloped, yet relaxing but is slightly rocky in locations but safe for children. There are a few umbrellas and sunbeds for rent and there is a beach bar and tavern nearby. Vassilikos is a popular destination so the area can get crowded.

Where to Eat & Drink

The Horizon Greek International Restaurant in Laganas specialises in Greek, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines. Try the gyros club sandwich, a rack of barbecue ribs, the lamb or chicken Klefiko which is flamed at your table. Leave room for the chocolate crepes and enjoy the frozen cocktails. It is family run and has a roof garden overlooking the beach.

The CheekyTikis Bar on the strip in Laganas, is a whacky, British owned Tiki Bar with a Hawaiian them. There are activities for older and younger children. Be sure to try a drink called the Four Leaf Clover.

Just 30 yards opposite the St. Dennis church in Argassi is The Peppermint, open only on weekend during the winter months. It is ideal for families with children, a large groups, romantic dinners, or special occasions. It specialises in the local tastes of Zante, with vegetables from their own garden. Try the mussels, prawns in white wine sauce, honey sesame chicken, pork in cream sauce, and the meatballs. There is a childs menu and playground. Jazz is played in the background.
