Playa del Ingles is Gran Canaria’s largest holiday resort and, after Bendidorm, is the second largest of its kind in Europe.

The Canaries are famed for their climate of ‘eternal springs.’ Year round they enjoy a mild climate with little variation year round. Throughout summer the temperatures rarely hit uncomfortable extremes and they remain mild and relatively warm throughout winter as well.

Generally in the Canary Islands the southern parts of the islands experience warmer temperatures than the northern towns. Playa del Ingles is situated on the south east coast of Gran Canaria so the region experiences lovely warm weather year round.  This is aided by the nearby West African coast which radiates its hot dry climate across to the Canaries.

Playa del Ingles is home to one of the most famous beaches in Europe, a beach than can become very packed come summer time so if you want to avoid this it is best to visit in the off peak seasons.

Summer brings average temperatures of 26 to 28 degrees, which is not a huge variation on the winter temperatures which sit at an average of 22 to 24 degrees. It is not uncommon in summer for the weather to exceed 30 degrees but the pleasant trade winds which blow across the coast has have cooling affect so the temperature highs aren’t as noticeable, but the sun factor is high.

The weather picks up to an average of 20 degrees in May (from 19 degrees in March an April) before moving up to an average of 24 degrees in the height of summer, August and September.

In winter time the southern part of the island is much more popular than the north. As previously mentioned the weather varies quite greatly from the north to the south of the island during the winter tourists and local holidays will flock to the south to avoid the windier wetter conditions of the north.

November to February see Playa del Ingles experience its greatest rainfall with 21 mm of precipitation falling in November and December before falling to 17 mm in January, rising again to 22mm come February. On average there is no rainfall during the months June to August and is fairly minimal during Autumn and Spring.

Amazingly the water temperature doesn’t vary much at all from Summer to Winter. September and October see the ocean at its warmest (23 degrees) however the constant sea temperature of 18-20 degrees is aided by the warm currents of the Gulf Stream.
