Holiday Reviews for Sorrento
"Sorrento - The Best Holiday Ever!"
Weather : The weather was nice and improved as the week went on. A couple of very windy mornings, but this died down towards the afternoon. The last few days were very hot and clear, must have been well into the 30's.
Holiday : The holiday was brilliant, best i've been on. Sorrento itself is absolutely stunning, and the majority of the locals (apart from a few moody shop assistants) were so friendly and attentive.
The food was nice although I felt they have tried a little too hard to cater for Eastern Europeans, by having a lot of basic pasta/pizza dishes we would get back in the UK on the menu. I expected the food to be a bit more relevant to the area. That said it was all lovely still and didn't have one bad meal.
Places Recommended : I recommend you get a good map of Sorrento and walk around the whole town, there is lots to see. Go and have lunch down at the old harbour (Marina Grande), it's lovely. Also check out the old mill ruins, I've never looked down at something so steep before, it makes you very dizzy but is worth it for the view, it looks like something out of a fairytale!
We also went to Pompei which was very interesting. I suggest you get the local train service rather than paying for a organised outing, the trains are every half an hour and only cost 1.90 each way.
There are lots of boat trips you can take to local islands like Positano and Capri, these are supposed to be stunning.
Recommend Sorrento to others : Yes
