Located in southern Vermont Mount Snow at the south end of the Green Mountain range has over 90 trails offering a good range of skiing and riding for all abilities. Most of the beginners skiing is low level while the tree-lined runs for intermediates are among the more attractive and are mainly concentrated on the mid mountain sections while the North Face is considered to offer a small range of challenges for advanced skiers and boarders. Snowmaking covers nearly 80% of the mountain and the lift system is highly efficient to ensure that only on the very busiest days are there bottleneck queues of a few minutes. Mount Snow is linked by bus to Haystack which is two miles or a five minute ride down the road. It offers a further 44 prepared runs off six lifts. The Mount Snow Valley includes seven separate towns offering a good variety of accommodation: Dover, Wilmington, Halifax, Whittington/Jacksonville and Searsburg. The main Mount Snow accommodation centre is at the Grand Summit Resort Hotel and a andful of lodges, inns and condo complexes which are all handily situated right at the main Mount Snow base area, but the surrounding towns and villages offer a real taste of tranquil Vermont lodging.

Accomodation & Après Ski

Accommodation is varied and widespread. Most accessible is the showcase recently built Grand Summit Resort Hotel which is a full service self sufficient 200 room ski in ski but hotel which is sited right at the main base area. There are a number of other condo and hotel enclaves at the base, but those with a car may choose to stay at some of the more select classic Inns in West Dover for example. Straightforward Bed and Breakfast accommodation is also available, mainly also in West Dover which is just two or three miles from the lifts. These tend to be smaller, upmarket inns. So too there a range of three main condominium options all within a mile of the slopes. Eating out and apres ski is moderately varied in the range of options, but is mainly in keeping with what you might expect. At the top of the range is the Inn at Sawmill Farm which is excellent but pricey. Game and venison are the specialities at The Hermitage. The Roadhouse is towards the other end of the scale serving relatively basic food at sensible prices. Otherwise there is good live music at the weekends at the Snow Barn. Cuzzins gets surprisingly raucous later in the evening and is great fun, while there are one or two decent more sedate traditional inns and pubs in the area. Snowmobiling through the fresh snow at valley level is a wonderful experience and tubing and tobogganing is also available in the Mt Snow valley.
