Resort Guide for Sauze d Oulx, Italy

Resort Profile

Sauze d'Oulx remains one of the perennial favourites in the Milky Way circuit, offering a good mix of plentiful widespread terrain for beginners and intermediates, popular prices for eating and apres ski, and a lively, varied nightlift. It has, however, lacked snow during long spells over recent seasons and lacks a comprehensive snowmaking operation to alleviate this problem. Sauze has outgrown its reputation as a destination for boozed up Brits, but it does have a great night life with dozens of lively bars, restaurants, cafes and a couple of good nightclubs. The town has no discernible architectural style prevailing. There is an original core to the village round which has sprung an assortment of different styles of modern hotels and apartment blocks interspersed with traditional chalets. Towards the edge of the village there are some more attractive, secluded chalets enjoying a woodland setting. Traffic can be a problem in the town, and the bus service has been criticised for being too crowded and infrequent when the resort is busy.

Accomodation & Après Ski

The apres ski is more reserved than it once was, and there are more upmarket bars and restaurants on offer, but fun drinking and dancing is available late into the night. Andy Capp's was once the bastion for Brits on tour but it has toned down but is still popular. The New Scotch Bar, Boogieman and Moncrons are among the choice spots for early drinks. Pizzerias and good, cheap restaurants prevail but the Don Vincenzo and Il Cantun restaurants offer full Italian banquet menus.
