La Tania is a lovely, imtimate resort with really good accomodation and everything one needed.
The Ski training by the Magic instructors was brilliant and helped me to progress quickly.
The green run from the top of the 'bubble' lift was initially challenging, but after several attempts, became exilerating to go down.
It was my first time skiing and therefore was looking forward to my experience greatly - I was not disapointed at all!

I will be back!!

Firstly, the 3 valleys is the most extensive and best ski area in the world. Once you have skiied here, other places just don't match it. Sorry, I've tried Whistler in Canada, and some great resorts in New Zealand - The snow may be good in those parts, but the variety of pistes and the distances you can cover don't even come close to the 600+km of piste in the 3 valleys.

La Tania is a great base from which to explore the 3 valleys region, particularly for intermediate and above skiiers who don't mind clocking some leg miles. For a good warm up day head over to Courchevel 1650 (from La Tania up the Gondola, button lift, down Loze to the Biollay chair, across to Pramuruel then take the Roc Mugnier chair up to 1650).

I'm normally a keep the skis on kind of person, and avoid the faff of gondolas. However to fit in my favourite long day (9-5) from La Tania I'll go with the gondolas: 9am up La Tania Gondola, then chair, turn right down to Meribel down Boulevard Loze - blue, up Plan de L'homme chair, then Cheferie button (far right), head to St Martin de Belleville 2 chair via Jerusalem - red (best kept secret in 3 vallees), up St Martin chair, down Gros Tougne - cruisy blue, all the way to Les Menuires. Take Les Menuires chair up, down Les Boyes - blue to La Masse gondola, up 2 cable cars then down Fred Covilli - red, then join the blue for the ride down to Rebetty (wierd slow open lift to resort). Bruyeres Gondola up to the top of Mont de la chambre, turn left and follow signs down blue to Val Thorens, (quick lunch stop on the piste- no more than 45 mins). Stop to refuel here: Huge omelette and veggies about 9Euro on the side of the Mont de le Chambre piste. Turn left for Val Thorens, then Moutier chair up the other side of Val Thorens, Funitel de Grand Fond to the top, down into Orelle (4th valley), up very slow chairs to the highest point in the 3 valleys, gun it down here, chairs up to Val Thorens, down blue/red all the way back to Val Thorens to the Plan du Soleil chair then, gondola up to Mont de la Chambre (less wait time than the chair). Down mont de la Chambre - red, to Plan de Mains chair (biggest line of the day - taking the chair avoids the painfully slow blue 'poler' to Mottaret) down any blue into Mottaret (you may want to get the Plattieres bubble down from station 1 to avoid slush). Up Pas du Lac gondola to the top of Salire in the Courchevel valley, down Salire/Verdons to Coqs chair (shuts at 5pm we made it with 10 mins to spare). Down lanches - red, and f0lyeres - blue back to La Tania. Phew. Some brilliant runs in there. Next day is a recovery/cruise day in 1650!

For beginners there is sufficient space for learning down low before heading up the mountain, though at this time of year it's pretty churned up at resort level.

Spring skiing (I was there 31 March - 7 April) was the usual: good cover in the morning turning to slush by around 2pm. Mostly blue skies last week, but one big day of snow.

What to do when you are back from skiing in Spring? There are some great short walks near La Tania, I saw a deer and wild pig in the early mornings last week (early April). Follow the signs at the back of the Saboia apartment complex (to go up mountain), or near La Taiga restaurant (down towards villages). You can get a map from the tourist office.

Just a recommendation for getting up the mountain quickly - if you are heading to Courchevel 1850/1650 from La Tania, take the Gondola (the only way out of La Tania), then the button lift up (next to the chair lift), this way you avoid having to 'pole' for about 50 metres at the top of the Lac Bleu/Loze run.

la tania is small but quite vibrant.
Plenty to do for one week + you can always get the free ski-bus to courchevel.
SKi-ing is fantastic - you need an area pass to make the most of the three valleys. We went in march and it was never busy on the slopes.
Fairly expensive for food/beer - but no different from the rest of france.
Transfer from geneva took 2 hours - we booked through Telemark Hotel - easy peasy.
Hotel is cheap and cheerful - e.g. no cooked breakfast except at weekends. first night had meal included - good qulaity.
Would go there again.

Recommended Places
must take the big gondala to top of mountain at val thorens - magnificent view.
Took us 2.5 hours to ski back to la tania though!
