Weather Overview for sidari
Sidari is
a beach resort on Corfu’s north coast. Corfu Island is
the most northern of the Greek Islands. The climate of Sidari is
typically Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters.
In
general summers are a little milder on Corfu than in the rest of Greece. Winters can be a little cooler and wetter
than elsewhere as well; hence the more green and lush appearance of Corfu
compared with other Greek Islands.
SUMMER
Summers are
typified by hot sunny days and little rainfall. While not quite as hot as other
parts of Greece, temperatures can still regularly reach highs in the 30s during
July and August.
Summer
begins in June, when average temperature is 22C with highs in the highs
in the upper 20s and lows in the mid to high teens. July and August are the
main summer months when the town is at its busiest. Temperature averages a
healthy 25C at this time. Summer heat waves can bring extremely hot
temperatures in the high 30s on occasion, but it is more usually in the low 30s
during the hottest part of the day.
July and
August can be quite windy in Sidari as the Meltemi winds blow in from
the north. These can be quite strong but do bring welcome cooling breezes to
the hottest days. These Meltemi winds can blow for up to 45 days each summer.
Rainfall is extremely low between June
and August, averaging just between 10 and 20mm per month. Basically expect
plentiful sunshine in Sidari during the summer months.
WINTER
Winters
in Sidari can be quite wet, but temperatures are mild. Rainfall is at its highest in late autumn and early winter
when the monthly average is around 180mm. After December, rainfall decreases a
little but January and February still see more than 130mm of rainfall.
Sidari
becomes very quiet in winter as the tourists clear out of the town. Although
significantly cooler and wetter than summer, the town can still enjoy some good
winter weather with sunny days reaching highs of around 15C. It never get cold
in Sidari but winter nights can get a little chilly with temperature dropping
to around 5C. Freezing temperatures are very rare indeed.
If you
want to visit in winter remember that ferry services to and from the island are
much more infrequent and crossings can be unpleasant in bad weather. On the
other hand it is much cheaper and quieter than the other seasons.
AUTMUMN/
SPRING
Autumn
and spring are the times of change in Sidari both can see excellent weather.
Coupled with fewer crowds and cheaper prices these seasons can be a great time
to visit.
May is one
of the most popular months outside summer and rightly so; average temperature at 19 degrees, with highs in the
mid 20s. Rainfall is low too, at just 36mm on average.
September,
on the other side of summer, is another good month. It is summer like in its temperatures, with highs up towards 30C. Rainfall does begin to increase a little however, averaging
about 75mm for the month.
Later in
autumn it does begin to get a little wetter, although temperatures remain good.
November is one of the wettest months with an average of 181mm of rainfall, although it can still regularly enjoy highs of almost 20C.
In spring
the cool, wet weather quickly gives way to summer days. By April, Sidari can
enjoy temperatures touching the 20s once more, and lows
start to remain in double figures. May is the start of the summer weather. Rainfall quickly decreases from almost 100mm in March to
just over 30mm in May.
If you’re
wanting to take a dip in the sea, then autumn is a better bet than spring. Sea temperature remains above 20C from early summer to the end of
October, peaking at 24C in August.
