Weather Averages for Santorini in December
Averages for Santorini in December
December is the coolest month of the year in Santorini, but it is still much milder than most parts of northern Europe at this time of year. Daytime temperatures can still reach a very pleasant high of 19°C (66°F) and only fall to around 13°C (56°F) in the evenings. The sun shines for 6 hours a day, so if you fancy a bit of respite from the harsh UK winter then this is a great time to visit Santorini.
It is likely that you’ll experience some showers if you visit in December, with the average rainfall being about 102mm, so bring a light jacket or umbrella. Flights and accommodation will generally be cheaper at this time of year, so break with tradition and do something a bit different for Christmas! There are still plenty of hotels where the whole family can stay and celebrate, so why not step out onto your balcony in the bright sunshine on Christmas morning?
During your stay you can visit cultural spots such as the Archaeological Museum and Art Space Gallery in Fira, or the ancient site of Thera, which features the remains of a theatre, marketplace, gymnasium and several excellent mosaic floors.
Year round accommodation that can be stayed in over Christmas includes the Anemomilos Hotel, which is conveniently situated just off the main square in Fira and offers a choice of both self catering apartments and villas or hotel suites.
And to truly experience the beauty of Santorini during your stay, the Heliotopos boasts a cliff top location with stunning views across the ocean that are a delight to wake up to.
