Averages for Samana in June

The weather begins to heat up in Samana, just like it does in Bahia Maimon, another resort town in the Dominican Republic. Although the climate is gloriously stable throughout the year—temperatures and sunshine are basically constant—June falls in the wetter part of the year.

The weather begins to heat up in Samana, just like it does in Bahia Maimon, another resort town in the Dominican Republic. Although the climate is gloriously stable throughout the year—temperatures and sunshine are basically constant—June falls in the wetter part of the year.

That said, however; with 64mm of rainfall in total, June is by no means incredibly wet. There are no more than 11 days with some kind of rainfall, meaning, of course, that there are 19 days without a single drop of rain whatsoever. There's no significant variation in the chance of rainfall throughout the month—it ranges between 47% and 52%. A testimony to the fact that this is the warmer and more humid part of the year, thunderstorms are now the most common type of rainfall. They occur on 48% of those 11 rainy days. Other, less common, rainfall types are light and moderate rain, which occur on 26% and 23% of those days.

In June, high temperatures of up to 31°C are common. The evenings cool down to a much milder, yet still extremely pleasant, 22°C after the sun sets. These temperatures also remain basically constant throughout the month. The overall average temperature is 27°C, which is the annual maximum. The sea temperature, too, is more than comfortable this time of year, averaging a delightful 28°C. It's a perfect time to enjoy a dip in the ocean.

Although this may be statistically the wetter part of the year, that is not reflected in the number of sunshine hours. Rainfall happens in heavy, but brief downpours and thunderstorms, which always make way for blue skies and sunshine. June is characterised by 9 hours of sunshine per day on average, as sunny as it gets in this resort. The same amount of sunshine is experienced in April, July, August and September.

Where to Stay

Villa Serena Hotel is a quality ocean-front hotel offering plenty of services and amenities, including a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, water sport equipment rental and a yoga and wellness centre. There is also a great selection of affordable rooms and suites available, ensuring there is something to suit everyone.

A luxury resort hidden in the tropical vegetation of the Samana Peninsula, Sublime Samana is a great choice for a place to stay in June. Covering 7 acres, this resort boasts pools and canals, a poolside restaurant, a bistro, a truly magnificent spa and plenty of outdoor activities to partake in.

The Bannister Hotel & Yacht Club is, as its name might imply, a rather exclusive hotel. Set right on the beach, this luxury boutique retreat has 28 beautifully decorated suites all offering fantastic views of the coast and sea. Amenities are world-class and include a full-service spa, indoor and outdoor dining venues, infinity pools, a children's games room, and activities ranging from yoga and fishing competitions to pool parties, paintball, wine tastings and tennis matches.

Things to Do

A particularly great way to explore the local area and enjoy the 9 hours of daily sunshine and warm weather that characterise June is horse riding. With Rudy's Rancho, you can choose to trek through the shady forest parts of the island or opt for a romantic ride on the beach at sunset. Rudy is very knowledgeable about the area and will be able to tell you about everything you see along the way. People who aren't used to riding a horse may feel fairly sore the following day. To avoid that, consider getting a massage afterward!

Combine a horse riding excursion and a trip to the spectacular El Limon Waterfall with Rancho Santi. On this trip you will be paired up with a horse and begin your journey to the falls under the guidance of one or two experienced English-speaking guides. After you have visited the waterfall, you will be treated to a traditional Dominican meal on your way back to the ranch.

Hit the Beach

The peninsula of Samana is lined with gorgeous sandy beaches, all wonderful places to spend your days in June. A suggested beach to enjoy the 28°C-warm water in the Caribbean Sea is Playa El Limon. Measuring several kilometres long, this clean, white sand beach lies only a couple of kilometres outside of the town of El Limon. A main feature of this beach is the small island, Cayo El Limon, that lies off the mainland.

Eating and Drinking Out

Whether you're in the mood for a light snack, a huge platter or anything in between, Zu Ceviche is a great place to go. Located in Las Terrenas, this tapas restaurant and bar serves small plates and cocktails in a casual, welcoming setting. People tend to rave about the service, while the prices aren't too bad either.

Another recommended eating venue in Las Terrenas is El Pan de Antes. This one doesn't serve dinner, but is rather a place to grab lunch or an afternoon snack. They sell freshly baked breads, pastries and paninis, cookies and cakes, and many other delicacies. The drinks menu consists of juices and coffees.

The restaurant at Albachiara Hotel, also in Las Terrenas, has a terrace offering great sea views. This, combined with great service and a menu filled with international dishes, is what attracts guests to this well located dining venue.
