January in Salou benefits from much milder weather than other parts of northern Europe at this time of year. Daytime temperatures reach a high of 13°C (55°F) and only fall as low as 4°C (39°F) at night, so if you’re looking to escape the bitter cold of the British winter then Salou is a good place to go.
While it won’t be warm enough to lie on the sand, you can still take a pleasant stroll along the seafront at Ponent Beach and Levant Beach.
The popular Portaventura theme park is open at weekends during January, so you can go for a fun family day out and enjoy the range of themed areas and thrilling rides. The park also has a number of themed hotels you can stay in that include unlimited access to the park itself.
Though the park is the focus of most family holidays to Salou, there are several cultural attractions to be seen in the area.
The Catalan Farmhouse is an authentic reconstruction of a historic rural farm and is a fascinating glimpse into Salou’s past, while the Torre Vella on the seafront dates from 1530 and was once used to protect the area from pirate raids. There is a lighthouse is situated on a hill above the harbour is also a popular attraction and provides stunning views of the local area.
There is much less accommodation available in Salou during the winter so if you’re travelling with your family you may find it easier to stay at one of the Portaventura hotels.
Alternatively, the Golden Port Salou is located in the centre of town and offers a range of rooms to suit your needs, along with a buffet restaurant and extensive spa facility.
