Sa Coma is a beach resort on Majorca’s east coast in Spain’s Balearic Islands. Thanks to its fantastic Mediterranean climate, with long hot dry summers and mild winters, the region is famed as a superb beach holiday destination. The warm surrounding seas moderate the climate, keeping away extremes of temperature. The town enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year on average.

SUMMER

Summer is the most popular time to visit Sa Coma. The temperatures are high, the skies blue and rainfall almost nonexistent. July and August are the hottest months, though average temperatures are above 20°C from June through to September. July and August see daily highs usually reaching the low 30s but they can get higher, even up towards 40°C during a summer heat wave. Thankfully, the town enjoys cooling sea breezes. The summer wind Embat is created as hot air rises up off the island, drawing in cool sea air. It is very welcome on hot summer days!

June, July and August see an average rainfall of just over 40mm between them, accounting for only about 10% of annual rainfall. Sunshine is plentiful with an average of between 10 and 11 sunshine hours per day in summer.

The sea is great for swimming, reaching about 26°C in late summer, and it stays warm until late autumn.

WINTER

Winters in Sa Coma are mild and it can make a good escape from the cold of northern Europe. The average temperature drops to its lowest in January at 9ºC, when lows can be around 4°C at night but daytime highs usually get into the mid teens.

After autumn, winter is the wettest time, but with only about 40-50mm per month on average there is still plenty of time for sunshine – winter days average a healthy 5-6 sunshine hours per day. Occasionally, wet, windy, stormy weather can occur in winter but it’s normally short-lived.

As Sa Coma is situated on Majorca’s east coast it is a little warmer and drier than other parts of the island. The reason for this is that the mountains in the island’s centre act as a weather block for inclement weather coming from the north and west. Sometimes it can be windy and rainy on one side of the island but sunny on the other.

SPRING AND AUTUMN

Both spring and autumn are good times to visit Sa Coma; the weather is still excellent and the town is quieter and cheaper than in the hectic midsummer period.

Autumn sees slightly higher temperatures, but spring is drier and sees more sunshine.

September can really be classed as a summer month with daily highs in the upper 20s. Early October has plenty of warm weather too but by November it has cooled noticeably. Rainfall does increase as autumn progresses and October and November are Sa Coma’s wettest months with 50-60mm average rainfall.

Spring is dry with rainfall around 30-40mm per month. The likelihood of rain decreases as the season progresses. May is a great month with plenty of sunshine (9hrs per day on average) and daily highs up into the mid 20s. Early spring is somewhat cooler and temperatures can still be in single figures at night and early morning.
