While it might not be summer, it is still very summer-like in Puerto Plata in the month of January. Thanks to the Dominican Republic's location in the tropical Caribbean Ocean, it is always warm in the region.

Despite the early month, water temperatures are still pleasant at 26°C (79°F) and warm enough for a quick swim.

Visitors looking for fine dining will have to look no further than Le Papillon. While small in size, this restaurant features a large menu in a unique atmosphere. The menu features something for everyone and takes advantage of the fresh seafood to wonderful steak dishes.

Los Tres Cocos also receives high marks thanks to its exceptional food and quality. The desserts are also said to be wonderful and while it can be hard to find, the garden setting gives the restaurant a wonderful atmosphere.

For visitors who prefer an ice cold beer as their beverage of choice, Casetta Nr3, Tropical Bar and Restaurant should not be missed. There are over 20 Belgian beers and Friday night is karaoke in six languages. 

There is no shortage of adventures to partake in around Puerto Plata in January to take advantage of the sunny conditions and the warm weather.

One of the more popular adventures is to sign up for a Jeep Safari and Waterfall Tour. Explore the region by riding in an open-air Jeep and see the beautiful foliage and area surrounding the area.
