Weather Overview for Prague
Prague has a central European climate with large differences between the seasons. Generally the city experiences hot, rainy summers and cold winters. Spring and autumn are changeable times when you can experience the whole range of different weather.
Summer:
Summers are warm in Prague with daily highs averaging in the mid to low 20s. June, July and August are the hottest months, though the weather is warm from May through to September. The hottest summer days can easily see the thermometers rising up to and above 30°C. Evenings can still be a little chilly and often require a light jacket with temperatures in the low teens.
Summer is the wettest time for Prague. May to August sees about 60 to 70mm of rain on average per month. On average you’ll experience rainfall for 10 days out of each month, so there is still good weather in abundance.
Autumn:
September is still warm and there are plenty of sunny days with temperatures in the mid 20s. From October, however, temperatures start to drop and it quickly gets colder. By November frosts start occurring as night time temperatures dip below zero and average temperature is 3°C. The first snows may arrive in November carpeting the city in a beautiful white blanket.
The weather can change quickly in autumn. It can be t-shirt weather under the midday sun one week then a few days later you can see the first snowflakes of winter. As there is such a marked difference between summer and winter weather, autumn and spring are times of rapid change.
Rainfall in autumn is not high, hovering at close to 30mm per month on average, though you will experience a number or grey days.
Autumn is a great time to visit as the crowds have thinned out from the peak summer and the city’s parks are in beautiful colour.
Winter:
Winter in Prague is very cold and snowfall is not uncommon. Average temperature is zero in December and drops lower in January in February. Temperatures can often be freezing, especially at night. Severe cold is unusual but not unheard of as temperatures as low -20°C can occur in Prague. Usually the temperature in winter will vary between 5 °C and -5°C.
Precipitation is fairly low in winter and the city enjoys a lot of beautifully crisp clear cold winters days. This is a truly beautiful time to see Prague. Snow does fall in city each winter and can occur any time between November and March.
Spring:
Like autumn, things change fast in spring. No sooner have the winter frosts gone than the city seems to be in full bloom. Early spring is still cold with snow and frost and freezing temperatures still possible. Average temperature in March is around 5°C, but by May daytime temperatures can be comfortably in the 20s. April is pleasant with days in the mid teens but nights can still be cold in the
