February is one of the coldest months in Playa de Las Americas, Tenerife in the Canary Islands. During this time of the year, the resort enjoys pleasant weather with an average temperature of 18°C, made up of highs of up to 21°C and lows of 14°C. This is a great month to enjoy a day at the beach, with around nine hours of sunshine each day and an average sea temperature of 19°C. Throughout February there are around 11 rainy days when the resort experiences about 55mm of rainfall.
Dates for the diary
February is carnival time in Tenerife. Although the events don’t take place in Playa de Las Americas until March, a number of excursion companies offer tours up to Santa Cruz de Tenerife where the main carnival takes place this month. If you decide to visit the capital in February during your holiday you’ll have the chance to take part in one of the most amazing carnivals in the world with incredible parades, fabulous costumes and plenty of partying until the early hours.
The Canarian Folk Festival also takes place in February during each Friday in Playa de Las Americas at the City Centre Square. This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn all about the traditions and customs of the local people. The Canarian Folk Festival begins at 8.30pm and includes locals dressed in authentic costumes, traditional singing and dancing, as well as a wide variety of local food and drinks to try.
Things to do
Golf lovers won’t want to miss the chance to enjoy a round or two at Golf Las Americas during their holiday. Found on the outskirts of the resort, this golf course features 18 holes with par 72 and covers more than 6,000m in total. There are various lakes and rivers dotted throughout the course which create a challenging game for golfers of all abilities. In addition to the golf course, there is a great range of facilities available, including golf shop, TV lounge, changing rooms, club rental and storage. There is also a driving range, chipping green and putting green where you can practice your skills.
For something a bit more family-friendly, spend the day at Aqualand. This fun-filled water park offers plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy – from great-grandparents to the littlest tots. There are plenty of adrenaline-pumping water slides for visitors looking extreme thrills, as well as a selection of more relaxed and laid-back rides for those looking for a chilled out day. Make sure you take the time to check out the dolphin show at the dolphinarium – it’s incredible.
Hit the beach
Just a short distance away from the Las Veronicas strip in Playa de las Americas, Playa del Bobo is a great place to spend a day under the sun. This small beach features soft dark sand and calm waters which are ideal for swimming and paddling. There are plenty of facilities and services available to enjoy here, including sun bed and shade rental, showers and a beachside kiosk, with a great range of shops, bars and restaurants nearby.
Playa La Pinta is another great choice when it comes to beaches in Playa de Las Americas. This bay has lighter, more golden sand with plenty of room to soak up the sun or build a sand castle. The waters are protected by several wave breakers, which create very gentle conditions perfect for swimming. In addition to sun loungers, parasols, showers and toilets, this beach also offers an inflatable children’s play area to keep the little ones amused. There is a bustling promenade and shopping centre just a short distance away where you’ll find loads of shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and cafes.
Where to eat & drink
Without a doubt, Thai Botanico is one of the very best restaurants in Tenerife. Found in the heart of the Safari Centre in Playa de Las Americas, this eatery features stunning Thai-themed décor with authentic artwork and plant life. The menu is bursting with traditional Thai recipes, including delicacies such as Thai fish cakes, chicken glass noodle salad, weeping tiger fillet steak and red peanut curry.
If you’re celebrating something special, be sure to head to El Molino Blanco. Here you’ll find an incredible menu with a wonderful selection of tapas, starters, soups, fish and meat dishes. Whilst the restaurant offers a wide variety of international choices, there is also a great collection of Canarian and Spanish specialities. The chef’s recommendations include beef Carpaccio, avocado pear with prawns, marinated mussels, Galician octopus and the mixed grill.
Christy’s Bar is one of the friendliest places to enjoy a drink in Tenerife. This bar runs regular drink offers throughout the year, so keep an eye out for two-for-one cocktail specials and other cheap drink prices. If you’re feeling peckish there is also a snack menu available with everything from English breakfasts to fish and chips.
