Continuing on from previous months, the average weather conditions in Ocho Rios during August, remain warm and humid. A slight increase in average rainfall is expected as the year progresses closer to wettest month of the year (October), this period is also the hurricane season and see's the highest possibility of Ocho Rios being affected by a hurricane. August just so happens to have the highest average sunshine hours as compared to other months, alongside July, by having an impressive 10 hours of sunshine daily. Longer days gives you extra time to appreciate and fit more activities into your daytime schedule!

Temperature

Average daily temperatures throughout August are 29°C, this average is the warmest expected by the resort throughout the year. The coolest time of day sees the air temperature dipping to 26°C, while the warmest peaks at an average high of 31°C. Provided there are no hurricanes close to Jamaica, you can expect most days to have fairly fine weather, allowing you to spend your time lazing at the beach or exploring the town area.

Casa De Shalom Inn or "House of peace, completeness and well-being" is a guest house/Bed and breakfast that affords good value for money in a fairly central location. A popular option at the resort, group or family rooms cater to larger numbers of guests that are willing to share a room. Ocho Rios Beaches for August

Located in front of the Caribe Resort and close to the town centre, you will find a beautiful little beach with white sand and very inviting turquoise water. On the beach there are beach chairs and umbrellas as well as a restaurant and bar service. Whilst the beach is open to the public, there are no changing rooms or toilets for non-guests of the resort.

Bars and Restaurants

With the building designed to look like a ship, Scallywags Restaurant and Bar offers diners an experience like no other in Ocho Rios. From the mahogany wood floor, to the Friday night karaoke the restaurant attracts a wide variety of people. The menu style consists mostly of Jamaican/Indian fusion style. The bar serves a selection of cocktails and top shelf drink options (or soft drinks for the kids!). Occasionally the restaurant and bar holds themed parties, be sure to check out their page for any upcoming events, and check the forecast to make sure you costume is not too hot/at risk of being damaged by rain!

A traditional type of food in Jamaica is 'Jerk', widely considered one of the best places to get Jerk in Ocho Rios, you can't miss Scotchies. Because Scotchies is so popular and busy, the food is always fresh and the meat is always juicy and succulent. There is no website for the restaurant, however, ask any local and they will point you in the right direction! Don't expect any fancy dining service here, you will be going back to basics (i.e. using your fingers, eating a meal served on a square of tinfoil). Don't let that put you off, the Smokey BBQ spicy Jerk, full of flavour and succulence, will leave you craving for more.

Things to do in Ocho Rios in August

Arguably one of the biggest culinary shows in the country, the Ocho Rios Seafood Festival takes place during August. Top chefs are put up against each other as they strive to impress the crowd with their culinary skills. Throughout the day there is a host of other entertainment happenings at the venue, including various fashion shows and dancing competition's. There is also a children's area that will keep the kids entertained throughout the day.

Also celebrated this month, the Jamaica International Reggae Film Festival. Celebrating the reggae culture, the festival is a chance for movie productions around the world to be displayed, and for a select few to be awarded with Honour Awards. The films are projected on stage for interested people to watch with an awards ceremony at the conclusion. Previous years, the festival has been held outdoors so it may pay to check the weather forecast before joining in on the fun.
