Baltic cruises have become extremely popular in recent years and this type of travel experience offers people of all ages the chance to explore a large number of popular destinations scattered throughout the Baltic Sea. Specially organised cruises cover most of the destinations in Northern Europe, as well as Poland and Germany, and offer travellers the opportunity to cruise around the Baltic countries in order to fully appreciate their many attractions, alongside the chance to enjoy on board entertainment while making new friends along the way.

Baltic cruises are only available during the summer season; the perfect time to explore this part of the world as the weather is at its best at this time of the year in the Baltic region. The temperature during the summer months ranges from 16˚C far out to sea to 22˚C close to the coast. Daytime temperatures in August can climb as high as 30˚C. This makes exploring the area a particularly pleasant experience, and although the Baltic Sea experiences dramatic thunderstorms throughout the year, they are usually low between May and August with around two or three a month.

Travellers will want to allow plenty of time to cruise around the Baltic countries to truly appreciate everything they have to offer. Most Baltic cruises last for 10 or 14 days and include a wide range of different destinations. Seven day cruises depart from England and cover a select number of destinations.

Due to the sheer number of locations that can be found in the Baltic Sea it is impossible for one cruise to cover them all, so cruisers will want to take the time to select the best cruise for them. One of the most popular Baltic cruises lasts for 12 days and takes in prominent cities such as Stockholm, Hanko, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Visby Bornholm and Amsterdam.

Most Baltic cruises offer travellers the chance to enjoy an extended stay in the beautiful Russian city, St. Petersburg. This allows two full days to explore historic attractions such as the Winter Palace, the Russian Museum, the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood and Peter the Great’s Cabin, before returning at night to sleep on board the ship. Other popular shore excursions include Berlin and Kiel in Germany, where the main highlight for the latter city is the bustling Kiel Canal.

One particularly popular Baltic cruise departs from Amsterdam, meaning that travellers will be able to take their time exploring Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, Vondelpark and Rijksmuseum before they set sail.
