Weather Overview for Marbella
Marbella lies in the south east of Spain upon the Mediterranean Ocean in the Malaga province of Spain. Sitting amongst the popular beach resort region of Costa de Sol- famed for its many hours of sunshine which it receives annually, Marbella is an important spot for tourism and has long been a popular getaway for the glamour rich and famous of northern Europe.
Marbella is a cosmopolitan, stylish and buzzing resort town than has grown enormously since it began as a small fishing village. There are many upscale restaurants and bars, and plenty of clubs to keep you entertained well into the early hours of the morning. You can awake and wash away the hangover from the night before in the beautiful waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
Marbella is known to have its own ‘micro-climate,’ playing
host to an average temperature of 19º C throughout the
year. Because the resort is sheltered by the high peaks of the Sierra Blanca in
its behind, the climate of Marbella is more mild than what is experienced in
any other neighbouring location.
Marbella is famed for its sunshine-
in the height of summer you can take in a glorious 11 hours of uninterrupted
sunshine in which you can work on your tan or enjoy some sangria in the sun.
See here for average daily sun hours.
Typical of a Mediterranean climate, the winters are mild with relatively little precipitation and
summers are warm without being blistering hot- though there are many days
throughout July and August which see the mercury rise about 30 degrees. From November
through March is when the most rain falls- though rainfall is fairly minimal
even during this time. Rainfall is insignificant for the rest of the year, with
many months often seeing no rainfall at all. Soothing winds blow from the east
and the region basks in a glorious 320 days of uninterrupted sun.
Summers brings average daily
temperatures of mid 20’s, with June being the coolest month of summer and then
the temperatures gradually rise, peaking in July and August and remaining hot
until the end of September. The winds that blow of the sea bring a welcomed
drop in temperatures, and the waters themselves are at a very pleasurable 21
degrees. See here for average water temperature, and here for daily highs and
lows throughout the year.
Autumn is generally the rainiest
time of the year, with November being the wettest month for the year- on
average- seeing in excess of 100mm of rainfall across the month. Rainfall will
sit between about 70 to 90mm until March before dropping off to bare minimums
in the summer months.
Winter brings average daily temperatures of 12 to 13 degrees, about 5 days of rain across the month on
average and the sea temperature drops down to 12 degrees. The area is certainly
not as busy during this time, so you will find quieter cafes and not as much
buzzing nightlife if you visit during winter. Though, hours of daily sunlight
are still at a beautiful 6 hours and the temperatures rarely get extremely cold
so it can make for a great winter getaway.
Spring can be a great time to visit,
the temperatures aren’t as high and you will avoid the summer throngs of
tourists which flock to the region in July and August. This also means you may
be able to find some great out-of-season bargains for package holidays and accommodation.
