Average daytime temperatures for the month of March are estimates to be around 29 degrees Celsius, with daytime high peaks reaching the tropical hallmark of 30 degrees and night time lows rarely going below a comfy 27 degrees. The weather doesn’t hold any surprised in Maldives during March, with sea temperatures staying around 29 degrees and still mirroring the daytime averages, this is the ideal month to fully enjoy outdoors activities in Maldives without fears of raining over your trips and treks.

During March, Maldives enjoy 9 hours of daily sunshine and the archipelago sees relatively little rain thanks to the still strong northeastern monsoon that keeps the atolls dry. Monthly total precipitation for March rarely exceeds 73 mm and it rains for 7 of the month’s days on average. Most of the rain during March is concentrated at the south of the Maldives that receive the majority of rainfall during the dry season.

Dates for the diary

The Day Maldives Embraced Islam is celebrated each year in March with great pomp and nationwide celebrations. Maldives used to be a Buddhist nation until the whole nation was converted to Muslim on Rabeeul Aakhir year 548 Hijri. The locals hold Abul Barakaath Yousuful Barbaree as the man behind the conversion and in this day they celebrate his name and his achievement that made Maldives as prosperous and rich as they are today. Celebrated officially since 1954, The Day Maldives Embraced Islam involves parades, public outdoors feasts and a lot of national sense and pride that is shared with tourists.

Things to do

Tourists visiting Maldives with their families should definitely try out the Whale Submarine Tour. Board a real submarine and explore the depths to discover coral reefs and marine life in the Maldives. This is the best chance for young children to explore the ocean floor since they are too young for scuba diving.

The Hukuru Miskiiy (Old Friday Mosque) is the oldest mosque in the whole archipelago of Maldives. The building is covered in elaborate and intricate carvings, both inside and out and is one of the main tourist attractions in the country, brining in millions of visitors each year. The architecture is unique here, as is the history behind this impressive building.

Hit the beach

The Nika Island is surrounded by numerous reefs and a shallow lagoon, offering a diverse selection of beaches around its coast. The main Nika shore boasts sparkling blue waters without any surge and fine golden sand, making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling. There are several scuba diving providers ready to offer their services there.

The Nika Island’s lagoon is shallow and very family friendly, as it allows young children to splash in the water without any hassle for the parents. There are also several tourist amenities.
