Located in the heart of Slovenia; Ljubljana experiences a climate subjected by extreme variations and inclined by its position in a large basin, bounded by sub-Alpine and Karst expanses.

Throughout the winter months temperature inversions cause the smoggy air to linger profoundly over the city, creating cold, damp surroundings generally below freezing point. Summers however are warmed by the clement breezes from the Mediterranean, making the weather usually sunny and reasonably hot.

The average monthly rainfall is constantly high throughout the year, and the city enjoys a comparatively high daily sunlight average by Slovenian principles.

Alongside a background of impressive landscape, Ljubljana provides a vast amount of invigorating outdoor leisure’s, such as paragliding, hang-gliding, ballooning, rock-climbing, and of course, skiing in winter. Ljubljana boasts incredible walking and hiking tracks, with most of the external division of the city enclosed with luxuriant forests, ideal for sight-seeing throughout the spring, summer and autumn months. The charming capital city of Slovenia, complete with stylish squares and enjoyable architecture, is idyllically located for discovering this small country, being no more than 90 minutes away from most attractions.

Different from Slovenia's coastal regions, which take pleasure in long hot summers and placid winters; Ljubljana replicates a more continental climate, making the winters a lot colder. The winters in Ljubljana can to a certain extent be very cold, fluctuating in December and January from 2ºC to -5ºC, but typically hovering just below the freezing mark. With plenty of snow and freezing conditions in the Alpine regions just out from the city, the mountains continue to be booming with tourist and the resorts offering many winter sports.

By late February, however, things begin to warm up with average Temperatures rising to 14 ºC. The city also begins to dry out just ahead of the spring showers that begin to strike every now and again. If travelling to Ljubljana throughout the spring months make sure to check from rain drops and lightning bolts before heading out.

Ljubljana summers and also the city’s peak season start to max out in July and August at a very Mediterranean 30 ºC or even higher.  Climates usually range between averages of 20ºC to 25ºC with relaxing, fresh evenings.

Autumn mornings are full of sunshine, but are also subject to showers and cloud cover in the afternoons. Because the city lies in a basin, Ljubljana receives possibly more than its owed share of rainy days.
