Weather Averages for Lefkada in January
Averages for Lefkada in January
January is one of the coolest months of the year in Lefkada.
Temperatures during the day only reach up to around 12°C (54°F) and can dip as low as 6°C (43°F) in the evenings.
There is also a likelihood of experiencing rain during your stay.
You should make sure to pack some warmer clothes and a light jacket for the evenings and in case of bad weather.
However, Lefkada is much warmer than many other parts of Europe during January so this is an ideal time of year to visit for respite from wind and rain!
Due to being out of season it is also quieter and accommodation is cheaper and more easily available – a great time to come if you dislike intense heat and large crowds.
You can take advantage of the quietness and visit some of the picturesque villages dotted around.
Lefkada Town itself has a jumble of shops, from fishmongers selling locally caught seafood in the centre to the array of bars and restaurants near to North Harbour, there is something to tempt everybody.
There are also many beautiful old churches and several abandoned windmills to be seen.
New Year’s Day is a national holiday in Greece and is also the name day of Saint Vassilios – name days are generally celebrated more than birthdays in Greece, so expect many celebrations to be taking place.
If you visit the nearby island of Kefalonia, you will find celebrations taking place at St. Vasilios Church in Kermeies. A Vassilopita cake is baked specially for the occasion and contains a coin – traditionally, whoever gets the coin will receive good luck in the following year!
