Langkawi
experiences a very warm and humid climate where its temperatures rarely alter
throughout the year. With temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C and humidity at an
extremely high percentage, the climate in this region of Malaysia
can at times feel excruciating.
As Langkawi is situated near the equator the town enjoys a tropical nature,
comparable to many cities and countries located in equatorial areas. Such
regions that benefit from the influences of the equator are also affected by
monsoons that bring occasional but heavy showers. Some of these showers are
often accompanied by violent thunderstorms. On rare occasions such monsoon
rains can cause widespread floods therefore causing disarray to the regions
resident’s homes and even their lives.
Langkawi benefits from two distinct seasons; the dry season and the wet
season. The region generally experiences summer all year round, there is
however a characteristic summer featuring hot and dry spells with almost an
insignificant amount of rainfall. Throughout the summers arid gentle breezes blow
towards the west that carry out no rainfall. The long dry spell of summers
comes to an end with the approach of the rainy season. The rainy season is at
its peak between the months of August and September .Langkawi obtains an annual
rainfall of 2500mm on average. Though the Europeans favour the land during its
summer months, the Arabs prefer to be on the island in the wet period, to
escape their similar dry arid heat, this time is however also fairly quiet.
Because the humidity level in Langkawi can reach as high as 80% locals are
typically found relaxing on the coast beautiful beaches to escape the regions
sweltering heat.
The most ideal time to visit the island is from November to March when the
sea remains calm and Tourists can have a cheerful time enjoying the side scenes
and partaking in the islands favourable water sports.
