What's the weather like in Kotor in September

Autumn in Kotor starts mildly, with strong influences of summer still hanging around. The bay is so warmed up and sunny that somehow it finds it hard to give it all up and truly embrace the typical coastal passage to winter.

Temperature

The average temperature is a wonderful 21°C, with nights lower at 14°C, so make sure you pack some long sleeves if you're travelling to Kotor during this time of the year the substantial difference between night and day might take you by surprise. The hotter days are expected to reach an average high of 26°C (79°F), a lower figure than previously experienced in August but still warm enough to make it a wonderful place to stay in September.

Sunshine Hours

Humidity goes up to a 60% average, slowly preparing the bay area for predominantly rainy months ahead. The days get shorter, with up to 8 hours of sunshine per day, and the skies are a mixture of clear blue and grey clouds as the month progresses into its third and fourth week.

Rainfall

Chances of rain increase to 60% on average, and rainfall volume also increases to a significant 103mm on average, spread over a total of 9 days. All of these figures roughly translate into a wetter month but a mild one too, making it easy to take advantage of the sunny days and still head out to the beach.

Sea Temperature

The sea temperature is still quite high at 24°C (75°F), typical given the influx of sub-tropical currents and low levels which allow the water to warm up much faster and maintain its optimum swimming conditions. Wind speeds slowly increase to 72kmh and most of them continue to blow from the southern and south-western regions of the Adriatic Sea, but some northern gusts begin to make their presence felt especially at night.

Kotor Hotels in September

Hotel Splendido can be found in the neighbouring town of Prcanj, and it boasts a wonderful outdoor swimming pool, with a spacious sun terrace and chaise-loungers. The hotel's Tramontana Restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine, servicing both an indoor dining room, as well as a terrace with panoramic views. Some of the menu highlights include seafood and Montenegrin specialities, and cocktails can be enjoyed at the bar. Massage services can also be made available to hotel guests.

For a budget holiday, self-catering apartments can be booked at Apartments Nikcevic. Enjoy access to a private swimming pool, lush garden and a sun terrace with good barbecue facilities. The units are stylishly decorated and feature air conditioning, a flat screen TV in the lounge area, private bathroom and fully equipped kitchenette, as well as superb views of the bay from the private balcony. Supermarkets and bakeries are situated within walking distance from the aparthotel, and the Old Town is just 3 miles away.

A nice way to treat yourself when it comes to quality but affordable accommodation in Kotor's Bay is going for a double or superior room at Hotel Rendez Vous, situated in the very heart of Kotor's Old Town. Its rooms feature a practical and modern décor, in pastel tones and solid hardwood flooring, as well as air conditioning, flat screen TV, en-suite bathroom and stunning views of the bay. The hotel rests between UNESCO Heritage buildings, including the beautiful churches of Saint Luka, Saint Nikola and Saint Ozana, and San Djovanni Fortress is merely a minute's walk away. The on-site restaurant specializes in Adriatic cuisine, Montenegrin dishes and international specialties.

Kotor Beaches for September

Whilst the sun is still very much out, and the temperatures both above and below sea level are good make your way down to the beautiful Trsteno Beach, the most popular of the entire Donji Girbali region, also considered to be one of the 9 most beautiful beaches on the entire coast of Montenegro. Its deep pull and shallow entrance make it perfect for relaxing sun-soaking sessions, as it is completely protected from high waves, storms and the occasionally nasty southern winds. Unlike the beaches around the Old Town of Kotor, Trsteno stretches for about 200m and is made entirely out of a very fine sand, making it well worth the trip. Its water is crystalline blue of a turquoise impression, and its naturally lush backdrop makes it resemble a little chunk of heaven that just happened to form on the Montenegrin coast.

Bars and Restaurants

The neighbouring seafront of Perast, one of Kotor's sister towns, is home to Conte Restaurant, opening out to Boka Bay. It's known to be one of the best venues in the whole of Montenegro, specializing in amazing Mediterranean cuisine. The chiefs source their fish straight from the local fishermen, and the menu also boasts an impressive selection of international dishes, as well as a fabulous wine list. Most importantly, the atmosphere is sophisticated yet casual, with the outdoor terrace resting directly above the blue bay waters, and offering unforgettable views along with unforgettable meals.

Luna Rossa is a wonderful venue, its home a 13th century restored stone palace, and it's well known for offering not only a great atmosphere and flawless service, but also a fantastic menu with delicious food, soaked in local tradition and Adriatic flavours. You can either have a seat in the café on the rooftop and get a panoramic view of the Old Town, or you can grab a seat in the square terrace and watch the Montenegrin life gently go by. Either way, you're bound to walk away with an excellent impression of Kotor's cuisine and hospitality.

Top Hill is still very much open in September, and is Kotor's hottest nightlife spot, attracting well over 5,000 people during the weekend. Its parties go late into the night and they often feature international guest DJs who bring their own following to the show. Expect dazzling laser shows, extravagant cocktails and long drinks pouring down and a plethora of ravers in this marvellous nightclub resting on Top Hill.

The tour lasts for about an hour and a half, which is more than enough to fully explore this little gem.
