Averages for Kalkan in May
Those who are fed up of the typical loud and over the top nightlife in many resort destinations around the world will be sure to fall in love with Kalkan. Located on Turkey’s Lycian coast, this small town shuns the traditional nightclub in favour of intimate bars and cafes for a relaxing and romantic atmosphere.
May is when things really start to heat up in Kalkan. Summer temperatures arrive, bringing highs of 25 degrees celsius and lows of 13 degrees celsius. May is a pleasant time to visit Kalkan as it’s remarkably warm and sunny, but the high mid-summer heat hasn’t yet arrived. The beaches will start to come to life at this time of year.
Rainfall is roughly 21mm during May so it’s very unlikely to interfere with travel plans and arrangements. Visitors should find the majority of May days dry, sunny and warm.
Now that the warm weather is appearing, why not head down to the sea? The Kalkan Diving Centre offers both beginner courses and pro diving off the Kalkan coast in the Mediterranean. The centre is PADI approved and travellers have the choice of 14 dive sites in the area. Dives cost from £25 and there’s snorkeling and watersports such as jet skiing, wakeboarding and banana boat rides on offer, too.
Warm up afterwards with a coffee at Cafe Del Mar (and take the kids for one of the infamous milkshakes or smoothies). Not just a coffee shop, this Kalkan venue also encourages a book swap (be sure to pick up something new for the flight home) and sells traditional Turkish lamps and coffee sets which make great souvenirs.
Each May, the Happy Hotel once again opens its doors to tourists. Rooms are available from £34 per night and all have a large private balcony or terrace. There’s a sauna, fitness room and pool onsite for guests’ enjoyment and relaxation.
