Situated in the heart of Switzerland; the district of Interlaken is one of the country’s most renowned tourist destinations. Positioned 570m above sea level, the town takes its name by its geographical location between two large lakes, whilst one Aare River flows steadily through the town itself.

As far as Switzerland and its nearby countries are concerned, Interlaken’s climate is beyond doubt holiday-worthy. In terms of sub-alpine climates, Interlaken’s typical weather is in fact relatively mild. This is due to the surrounding forests and glaciers that help keep the weather from becoming too desolating. The mountainous resort of Interlaken features extremely diverse weather, with the seasonal climate distinctions being greatly influenced by its positioning in the Swiss Alps and the Jungfrau district. This is also the reason being for Interlaken’s popularity as one of Switzerland’s most favourable winter holiday hot-spots. Due to its height in elevation, Interlaken can expect plenty of snow and a cold climate throughout its winter months.

Throughout the wintertime, days will respectively sit just under 0°C, whereas the summer months will see the sun shining endlessly with the climate frequently rising to a pleasant 20°C. Precipitation is typically at its highest throughout the middle of the year but is commonly fairly moderate. Whilst summer features the regions most rainfall, the winter’s precipitation will commonly come in the form of snow. Precipitation throughout winter will range between 75mm to 85mm each month, and the summer will see rainfall anywhere between 100mm to 150mm every month.

Winter

The months from December to March will see crowds of visitors congregate to Interlaken each year to enjoy the benefits of winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding and other snow lesuires. With temperatures slowly rising above freezing point to a more bearable climate in September and October will see the winter mountains that were previously filled with skiers now offering a range of spring and summer recreational lesuires such as trekking and mountain biking.

Summer

From the months of June to August, the air temperature will generally feel rather pleasant lingering between 18°C to 21C, as the snow is long gone. Yet, the climates typical of the months in summer are rather different from that in the winter, and although they would never be portrayed as “hot” they are undoubtedly warm and extremely enjoyable. The summertime is generally warm enough for a brisk dip in the lakes and to laze around in the warm sunshine. The pleasing summer weather and sunshine will see many tourists holidaying to the resort of Interlaken to enjoy various outdoor adventure sports, such as paragliding, hiking and white water rafting. The summertime also features the famous Jungfrau Music Festival, along with many other numerous music festivals and outdoor concerts.
