What's the weather like in Hawaii in December

While December offers cooler weather than the previous months of October and November in Hawaii, an average of eight hours of daily sunshine ensures the climate is always very favourable.

Average temperatures in the last month of the year on this tropical archipelago are forecast to reach levels of 24°C on almost every day. While the island enjoys significantly less rain when compared to the previous month of November.

Typically, Hawaii in December will experience an average of 87mm of rain spread over approximately 19 days. But even when it does rain on the islands, the heaviest downpours are usually limited to the highlands, or they fall at night, offering plenty of days for fun.

Peak temperatures in December in Hawaii can reach levels of up to 26°C on average. However, in 1988, Hawaii recorded its highest ever temperature in December, where the thermometer reached an incredible 31°C.

There is no chance of a white Christmas on the beaches in Hawaii, unless you include the whiteness of the sand. However some of the highest summits in the area can enjoy some snow, it just depends how high you are willing to climb.

Even the night times are warm in Hawaii. Average low levels at this time of the year only ever fall to approximately 21°C. And there has never been a temperature under 14°C in all of recorded history.

The trade winds will ensure that, even the nights are still comfortable. And as the sea temperature drops to 25°C in December, those beautiful swells will start to return attracting surfers from all over the world.
