Half Moon Cay was formerly known as the Little San Salvador Island.

Found in the Bahamian archipelago, Half Moon Cay is about a hundred miles from Nassau (Southeast).

Among all the exclusive island cruise skirts, it is considered to be the most beautiful because of its unspoiled nature.

This island is famous for its perfect blue beach, luxurious amenities, unspoiled forest and secluded atmosphere.

Only 50 acres out of its 2500 are developed. Holland America Line purchased the island in 1996 and it has been an exclusive island since.

Cruise ships from PLC and Carnival Corporation are regular visitors to Half Moon Cay ever. It is also located between Cat Island and Eleuthera Island.

The perfect season to visit the island should be in its hottest season, which is summer.

Summer starts from the month of April until September. The average temperature is 27°C during daytime and 23°C at night.

The warmest it will get is around 30°C. The weather is never too hot or too cold on the whole of the island, though.

Rain is minimal in Half Moon Cay which makes the perfect beach destination for sunbathing. October is considered the rainiest month.

Popular Activities/Excursions in Half Moon Cay


Activities inHalf Moon Cay are all about the water.

Deep sea fishing at Half Moon Cay is fantastic, especially because the fish you catch are either wahoo, snapper or grouper all of which are excellent to eat. Itâs also a sport central to the way of life on the island.

The Aqua Taxi Adventure is another exciting option. Ride a personal watercraft to tour the whole island and drive it eventually on your own through prepared obstacles.

For the adventurous, there is even a stingray adventure in which you get to swim with and interact with stingrays.

Beach horseback riding is also very popular and the trail leads up to the highest point of the island. The end of the trail has the best reward which is the fantastic view of the forest to the coast to the crystal blue ocean. 

Lagoon cruising and kayak adventures are also a must try.

Beaches in Half Moon Cay


Half Moon Cay is one big long stretch of sandy coastline. However, tourists can only explore a small area of the shore, as the owner of this island decided to improve only a small portion for beach goers.

However, Half Moon Cayâs beach is a popular place for tourists to base themselves and is ideal whether you want to sunbathe on the white sand or try out the wide variety of water sports on offer.

Half Moon Cay Nightlife


Half Moon Cay isnât know for its buzzing nightlife, with a more relaxed vibe.

Visitors here are more likely to enjoy a calm and peaceful holiday, with much of the evening entertainment focused on the restaurants on the island.

Typical foods such as barbeque, fries, chicken or burgers are widely available and ice cream shops are lined-up on the coastal area for a sweet dessert treat anytime.

It is not totally silent at night, though. There are some steel bands performing live every night to diners as they enjoy the food.

Cocktails and pints are available in some bars and establishments within the coast area, too.

As well as this, many of the water activities are still open during the evenings. Deep sea fishing at night, taking place either at sun down or sun rise, is also one very popular activity, with locals and tourists alike.

Accommodation in Half Moon Cay


Staying in Half Moon Cay comes down to either as a stop-by from a cruise ship or by renting the whole island.

The minimum stay is for 10 nights with a maximum of 10 people.

The 10 day rental rate is a whopping £58,000 but that includes accommodations and the use of other island facilities.

Accommodation is a choice of the main house, the guest house and the caretakerâs cottages. The main house is elevated 12 feet above the ground.

Each section of it spells luxury, from the vaulted ceilings to the mahogany furniture. The guest house on the other hand is just a smaller version of the main house. It is 6 feet above the ground and complete with all the luxurious necessities that a vacation house can have.

The third house which is the caretakerâs is really made for only one person. Its simplicity and coziness reflects its unique design as if the whole house is inside of a yacht.

Aside from this, a beach party area near the north end of the island is available, too. The place is equipped with water and electricity and sound systems.
