June is one of the warmest months of the year in Ha Long Bay. Daytime temperatures reach 33°C and it can also become extremely humid.
Evening temperatures only cool to around 26°C, meaning that if you dislike intense heat you may be quite uncomfortable.
Light clothing such as t-shirts, shorts and sandals made of lighter fabrics like cotton and linen are a must when visiting in the summer months.
When you are out exploring the bay, ensure that you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. And there certainly is plenty to keep you occupied!
The thousands of islands in the bay are best explored via a boat tour. There are plenty available around the bay and for an extra charge you can have an English speaking guide who will tell you more about the area.
Activities such as swimming, scuba diving, rock climbing and kayaking are also available.
Nature lovers should definitely not miss a visit to Cat Ba Island, which contains a large national park. There is an abundance of wildlife here, including coral reefs and tropical limestone forests.
Several remnants of the Vietnam – American war can also be visited here, including the secret Hospital Cave just north of Cat Ba town.
There is accommodation available on Cat Ba Island, however a very popular way to stay overnight in Ha Long Bay is on a ‘junk’, which is a traditional Japanese sailing boat.
The Chem Temple Festival takes place in June and honours a historic warrior that prevented the Chinese invading Vietnam. This is celebrated with kite flying and dragon boating on the Red River.
