Averages for Ha Long Bay in July
July remains extremely warm in Ha Long Bay. Daytime temperatures can reach up to around 33°C with intense humidity making it feel even warmer.
Evening temperatures still remain high at around 26°C, meaning there is very little respite from the intense heat.
Light, breathable clothing made from linen and cotton would be essentials during your visit in July.
However, the summer months in Vietnam comprise the wet season. This means there is a chance of rain showers or even tropical storms and typhoons. Macs or plastic ponchos would be a good idea to have on hand and these can be purchased fairly cheaply in the area.
Keep in mind that if weather is especially bad then boat trips or guided tours of the bay may be cancelled or their itineraries altered. Make sure you check with the travel company before you go and heed any advice that you are given on bad weather.
Of course in fair weather you can explore the beautiful islands of the bay with a boat tour. The many caves and grottoes such as Thiên Cung (Heavenly Palace Grotto), Sửng Sôt (Surprise Grotto) and Ðâu Gỗ (Driftwood Grotto) are also a must, and can be toured with an English speaking guide.
For something more active, you can try your hand at some rock climbing, kayaking or scuba diving.
Cat Ba Island houses a national park with a wide variety of nature and wildlife to be enjoyed.
This island also has several hotels that you may stay in. However many people like to enjoy the bay by staying in a ‘junk’, which is a traditional Japanese sailing vessel, moored in the bay.
The Tet Doan Ngo Festival is held all over Vietnam in July and sees people commemorate half the year and pray for a good second half as well.
