Averages for Ha Long Bay in December
December is one of the coolest months of the year in Vietnam. The hot, rainy, summer season is long gone and has been replaced with the more pleasant cooler, dryer winter.
It is by no means cold however, with daytime temperatures still reaching 22°C. Even in the evenings, temperatures fall no lower than 15°C.
The best way to see the bay is by boat and there are plenty of people offering tours. If you want a bird’s eye view, there are even helicopter rides available!
There are many caves and grottoes to explore in the bay, and these are best to experience on a guided walking tour with an English speaking guide.
Other activities available for sporty holiday makers in the bay include kayaking, rock climbing and scuba diving.
Cat Ba Island is definitely worth a visit as it contains a national park with an amazing range of wildlife.
War historians should also check out the Hospital Cave just north of Cat Ba Town. This three storey cave was built with assistance by the Chinese during the Vietnam War and includes an operating theatre and cinema.
Vietnam has a large Catholic population so if you are here for Christmas you will be able to join in celebrations which include church services and large family gatherings.
