In the beautiful and enchanting region of the Cote d’Azur in southern France is the artistic, cultural and historical city of Frejus- famed for its breathtaking architecture, quaint feel and countless monuments and structures which are scattered about the town.

Frejus lies equal distance between Cannes and St Tropez- so this in itself should give you a slight indication of what you can expect from Frejus. The benefit of this town is that it hasn’t been as scathed by the masses of tourism which have overrun Cannes and St Tropez- instead you are welcomed into a town which has a much more authentic French feel about it.

The town is brimming with cultural and artistic qualities, and it has the intriguing combination of being a medieval city as well as a popular sea side resort. You can wander the cobbled stone streets taking in the architecture which is centuries old, head down to the little port of Aygulf where you can gain easy access to beach paths and here you can discover the small sandy beach and wild inlets which you can enjoy a secluded swim, relax and take in the amazing Mediterranean climate.

While the city is beautiful, quaint and relaxing it does have some tragic events in its past- back in 1959 the Malpasset Dam which sits on the river above Frejus ruptured and killed over 400 people.

Being home to a Mediterranean climate means that summers are long and hot, and winters are short and mild. Spring and Autumn are enjoyable, great times to visit as they are in the off peak season so you wont be fighting with as many fellow tourists. Late autumn and winter is when the region records most of the years rainfall, come summer time rain has died off almost completely and you are blessed with hours and hours of daily sunshine in which to work on your tan or take in the sights. October and November are generally the wettest months of the year, recording 60 to 70 mm of rain across each month.

Summer bringsaverage temperatures of about 24 degrees, evenings cool down slightly when the coastal breezes blow off the Med- however it is not uncommon for temperature to sit above 30 degrees for several days throughout summer- best come prepared with sunglasses and sunscreen.

Frejus is known for its very well kept beaches- so if you are caught on a day where the barometer is measuring above 30 degrees you can be sure that you’ve got the warm waters of the Med and the clean beaches in which to cool off in!

Winter very rarely sees temperatures fall below freezing, the moderating influence of the Mediterranean Sea means that the season is kept pretty mild. Be sure to pack an umbrella if visiting in the winter as sporadic rainfall is common.
