October brings the wettest time of the year to Costa Dorada as well as continued dropping temperatures. While rain chances may be higher, vacationers can still take advantage of pleasant afternoon temperatures to enjoy the region and all that it has to offer.

This time of the year sees an average of 50mm of precipitation throughout the month, tied with January as the annual peak in rain. The amount of rain is up significantly from the summer months, but the precipitation still only falls over an average of 6 days of the month. With 31 days in the month, there are plenty of opportunities for vacationers to take advantage of dry conditions and see what the region has to offer. In fact, the chance of rain is still a steady 20 percent making the likelihood of running into a shower, very slim.

Meanwhile, temperatures continue to fall with average overnight lows being worthy of a light jacket first thing in the morning. Temperatures will fall to an average low of 15°C (59°F) by the early morning hours. However, they will quickly rebound to very pleasant numbers by the later afternoon hours. Eventually, temperatures will climb to an average high of 24°C (75°F). The overall average daily temperature for the month will be 20°C (67°F).

Vacationers can take advantage of the nice afternoon temperatures while enjoying an average of 10 hours of sunshine per day. While this is less sunshine than previous months, there is still plenty opportunity to enjoy the region with the sun beaming down.

Sea temperatures will continue to fall as well as the months continue to tick by. Temperatures are still pleasant enough for a brief swim, but it is best to do so now before temperatures fall any further. Throughout the month, the average sea surface temperature is a mild 21°C (70°F).

What to Do

Tarragona plays host to the biennial castell (human tower) competition this month where the best human tower groups execute their most elaborate and difficult exhibitions in a bullring in front of thousands of spectators.

Strolling and sightseeing throughout the regions of Catalonia would be a great way to spend your vacation in Costa Dorada and enjoy a 100 percent chance of a sunny day.  The towns are accessible and the weather is cooperative with moderate temperatures throughout the month.  First stop is Salou's House of Illusion which is pure entertainment at its finest.  Upon entering the premises, waiters and waitresses will ply you with drinks and make sure that you are comfortably seated.  The House will regale you with fabulous magic tricks involving cards, ropes, coins and live mind reading.

Watching movies during a vacation will never be a dull activity if you do it in an exotic place such as Sitges.  Every October the Sitges International Film Festival is held with horror and fantasy as the genre. Local and Asian filmmakers will showcase their creations in cinemas along with classic horror legends. Undergo a complete makeover by having professional makeup artists make you into a true to life zombie and participate in the annual Zombie Walk.

Beaches

As a little piece of paradise on earth, Cala de la Roca Plana is located between Salou’s platja Llarga and La Mora. Visitors are greeted with good surf and great sand along with room to rest and relax or take advantage of the region’s water sports. This is the last month to enjoy the water with temperatures of 21°C (70°F).

Restaurants and Nightlife

Tourists who are up bright and early will want to check out The Little Hampton when looking for a good place to grab a hearty breakfast. Rated as one of the best restaurants in the region, guests are treated to large portions as well as a friendly and welcoming staff. Reservations are certainly recommended at La Cuineta because of its size and its popularity. This tiny restaurant puts out some of the best dishes at the best prices in the region. At lunch, guests are treated with three courses of their own choosing and the choices only get better for dinner. The creative menu will certainly offer something for everyone.

If you are a visitor and a Liverpool fan, then there is no place better to go than Shanklys Bar. Dedicated to fans of the club, there are plenty of televisions to watch the matches on and plenty of beer and food to enjoy while sitting around the bar. Just be sure to get there early when a match is on in order to get a seat.
