Explore the Algarve province outside of Carvoeiro and take a trip to Portimão.  This town, very close to Carvoeiro, is located on the Arade River and is full of 19^th and 20^th century architecture.  The winding streets of this town are charming and dotted with local stores and familiar brands.  If you would like an active pursuit, they offer fishing trips, boat trips to local caves as well as dolphin watching excursions that are family friendly as well.
