Cala dor is a beach resort on Majorca’s east coast. While still busy in summer, it is one of island’s more low key resorts certainly when compared to the brash party towns such as Magaluf. Cala dor enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters. The warm seas around the island help dictate this climate, especially keeping the winters mild. Cala dor receives around 300 hours of sunshine a year.

Summer

Summer weather is typically hot with very little rainfall. The main summer months of June, July and August receive just 10% of the annual rainfall. July and August are the hottest months, with daily highs averaging above 30 ºC and the hot dry summer weather really last from June to September. On the hottest summer days, temperatures can rise up into the mid 30s and even beyond. Thankfully cooling sea breezes usually offer respite from the hottest days. The Embat is a well known local wind that brings fresh, cooler sea air to the island and is very welcome on the hottest days. There is a lot of sunshine is summer, with the town average up to 11 hours of sunshine per day in mid-summer.

Spring and Autumn

Spring and autumn are arguably the best times to visit as the weather is still great but it’s much less crowded than summer. Of the two seasons autumn is slightly warmer, but spring is drier. In early autumn temperatures remain very high, the summer weather doesn’t really leave until late September at the earliest. Average daily highs are in the high 20s in September and the low 20s in October. By November it does start to get a little chillier at night time temperatures drop down into single figures, although daily highs are very pleasant in the high teens. November’s temperatures are reflected by March and April’s in the opposite season. When May arrives, though, it quickly heats up and the first of the very hot summer weather arrives.

Winter

The winter months are mild in Cala dor: average temperature is 9 ºC or 10 ºC around the months of December, January and February. Night time lows can drop to around 3 ºC in the coldest, but in the day they can rise to 15 ºC. Though it is the wettest time of year, there is still plenty of sunshine in winter – averaging about five hours per day.

As for rainfall, the wettest time is late autumn and early winter. November is the wettest month on average with 95mm of rain. Over the year Cala dor sees 500mm of rain on average. Around three quarters of this falls between September and February. The other 6 months of the year see much less rainfall, especially the summer months in which rain is rare. The east coast of Majorca, on which Cala dor is situated, enjoys some of the warmest and driest weather on the island. This is due to the shelter afforded by the inland mountains.

The sea surrounding Cala dor is warm year round, a principle reason for the mild winters. The surface temperature of the sea varies between 14 ºC in winter and 26 ºC in summer, and it is comfortable to swim in from May to late autumn.
