Bridgetown is the largest city and capital of the picturesque and popular holiday destination of Barbados.

Lying on the west coast of the island of Barbados Bridgetown is home to no less than 80, 000 inhabitants. The west coast of Barbados is home to many luxury five star beach resorts which has earned it the nickname of the ‘Platinum Coast.’

Located upon the warm waters of the Caribbean, Bridgetown’s weather is kept wonderfully moderated by the affects of the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream keeps the waters warm and the winters mild.

(see chart for average daily temperature here)

Bridgetown is commercial centre of Barbados, home to a bustling port and a harbour known as the Careenage formed from a natural inlet.

Bridgetown hosts beautiful weather year round with most of the rainfall occurring in the summer months, with hurricane season running from June to October.

The temperature year round doesn’t vary a whole lot, and the main change in the weather is due predominately to the varying rainfall. As prior mentioned, the majority of rain falls in the summer months and the period from June to September does see Bridgetown at its warmest so the rain can often come as a welcome break from the summer heat.

Rainfall begins to pick up in June, with average precipitation more than doubling from May to June. Precipitation sits between 100mm- 200mm per month until November with rain falling on about 14 to 18 days per month. November is the wettest month with 206mm precipitation falling across an average of 16 days.

November also marks the end of the hurricane season and brings Barbados’s busiest tourist season. Due to its position in the tropics (lying very near to the equator) Bridgetown witnesses a tropical climate and is often subject to tropical storms. June through until October is Hurricane Season in the region so be sure to check the up to date weather forecasts before planning a trip to the area. Don’t let this deter you from traveling during this period, as many hotels offer cancellation deals in the event of a hurricane and the locals are very well informed and experienced on what to do in the case of a tropical storm.

Rainfall dies down by December and remains low throughout ‘winter’ right through until May. This is the most pleasant time to visit Bridgetown as the weather is agreeable making it an ideal ‘winter escape.’

During this period the average daily maximum sits at about 29 degrees while the minimum falls to a very pleasant 21 degrees. In the period of June to November the mercury rises to slightly higher with daily highs sitting in the low 30’s.

Humidity is low year round though picks up during the hurricane season and Bridgetown basks in 8 to 9 hours of sunlight each day throughout the year.

Year round the weather in Bridgetown is glorious, and the city benefits from a hybrid of island life intertwined with the benefits of a larger scale city. The beautiful Caribbean ocean is warm regardless of what time of the year you visit so if water sports are you thing then you will definitely find something to tickle your fancy here in the beach side town!
