August remains wonderfully warm in Benalmadena and is the busiest time of the year in the resort, so the beaches are packed and there’s a lively vibe everywhere.

With a whopping 13 hours of sunshine and virtually no chance of rain, this is an ideal time of year to visit for that perfect beach holiday. The sea water temperature is a very pleasant 24°C.

Fiesta de la Virgen de la Cruz, which takes place around August 15 in Benalmadena Pueblo, kicks off with a breakfast of sweets handed out by the women of the community Virgen de la Cruz, followed by a party, dancing, singing and free food for locals and tourists alike.
Things to do
The Flamenco Show Tirititran is a popular live music and dancing extravaganza that takes place almost every night during high season at Muscat Street, in the heart of Benalmadena. The show is characterised by its definite Hispanic flair and definitely earned its top international reputation.
Ronda Mountain and Calamorro Mountain are both very popular hiking destinations for tourists who seek to explore the nature around Benalmadena beyond its beautiful beaches and bays. The mountains that tower over the city are fairly easy to traverse, making them accessible to beginners and people inexperienced in hiking.

Costa Boat Charters operates an impassive fleet of more than 20 luxurious boats and ferries. Tourists can hop on one of them and go for a splendid trip across Costa del Sol, while people who can afford to spend a bit extra can even chart one of the boats all for themselves through the company.
Wild Bikes store is Benalmadena’s premier bike provider. The store offers all kinds of mountain bikes at low prices and also organises cycling excursions across Benalmadena’s outskirts. The prices here are surprisingly low and the store is ready to assist you in case of a flat tire or any other bike - related problem wherever you might be.
Sporting a unique modern ‘Hisoanoarabian’ style, the Bil-Bil Castle is an impressive castle, built entirely with stone and decorated with intricate tiles. The castle towers over the eponymous beach and is a major attraction with tourists from Europe as well as from the Islamic world. The top of the tower awards tourists with one of the most impressive views over the Mediterranean.
Hit the beach
Located in front of two large hotel complexes, the Arroyo Hondo is a small but very busy beach that offers tourists all kinds of amenities thanks to the two large hotels that tower over it. Here you will find saltwater and regular pools, several different bars and restaurants and a beach footie ‘stadium’ where locals and tourists play impromptu football matches on regular basis.
La Viborilla is a rocky beach that is not very suitable for swimming. However, this beach provides an excellent spot for fishing, especially shallow water fishing and angling for squids, octopuses and other ‘unusual’ catches. This is the perfect place to learn and practice unconventional fishing skills.
The beach at Arroyo de la Miel is a meeting point for surfers and windsurfers across Benalmadena who regard this little gem as one of the best surfing beaches along Costa del Sol. The surf here is consistently strong and predictable, allowing surfers to spend long days chasing waves without a pause.

Malapesquera, its name literally meaning “bad for fishing” is a famous blue flag beach that is certainly good for swimming very close to Benalmadena. The beach is fairly close to Santa Ana and even though it has minimal facilities you will find anything if you walk a few minutes towards Santa Ana.

Perfect for an enjoyable evening dining experience, Water Front is a romantic Spanish restaurant serving seriously good food. In addition to the range of delicious dishes, top service and a great location push Water Front further up the popularity stakes.
Owned and operated by British expats, the Drunken Sailor is a laid-back and very friendly British eatery where you can grab familiar bites and tuck into delicious English breakfast, Sunday roasts, fish & chips and many other favourites from back home.
Offering an interesting blend of Asian and Spanish tastes and smells, Wok Directo is a popular Chinese restaurant that serves Oriental dishes with distinctive Hispanic influences. The restaurant serves delicious food that effortlessly blends Mediterranean flavours with Asian spiciness in an upbeat environment close to Benalmadena’s marina.
The Longhorn del Sol is a friendly grill restaurant in Benalmadena. The food here is unpretentious and cooked with simplicity in mind to create straightforward and down-to-earth honestly delicious meat dishes. The portions are generous and the atmosphere is very family friendly.
Cj's Karaoke Bar is a seriously fun place to spend a night in Benalmadena. The bar is famous for hosting all kinds of costume shows and incredible karaoke parties where everyone is invited and no song is too silly.
Perhaps the best pub to catch the latest games from back home while visiting Benalmadena and one of the very few sports bars in the area is none other than Cocos sports bar. The bar serves cheap beer and covers big sporting matches, so don’t worry about missing that all-important game.

Affordable and stylish, Apartamentos Doramar offers decent and spacious apartments in the heart of Benalmadena. The hotel’s staff is cheerful and friendly while the hotel itself is located in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood that stands right next to the main tourist venues of Benalmadena.
Holiday Village is a family-friendly hotel complex in Benalmadena’s Paraje la Perla. The hotel is large, with spacious rooms and excellent facilities. The rooms are fairly priced, even during high season, and Holiday Village’s services are way above average despite the large volume of tourists who visit here each month.
