Weather lowdown

April sees temperatures begin to climb as spring arrives in Benalmadena and more resorts begin opening up towards the end of the month.

Daytime temperatures now peak at around 21°C (70°F) and can fall to a low of 11°C (52°F) in the evenings.

With ten hours of sunshine each day, you will certainly be able to enjoy the sunshine. But beware that there is usually on average 11 days of rain this month still.

The sea water temperature is 17°C.

Dates for the diary

Easter falls in either March or April and Semana Santa (Holy Week) brings colourful processions to Benalmádena, including the unforgettable Virgen de la Soledad, which takes place on Good Friday. Another great event is the staging of the Passion of Christ "El Paso" in the hills of Benalmádena.

Things to do

Home to the largest butterfly species in the whole world, the Butterfly Park of Benalmadena is a unique natural attraction that is home to thousands of different butterfly species as well as various other exotic animals such as kangaroos and tropical lizards. The park is very child friendly and an amazing tourist attraction for families with children.

Costa Party Cats is a popular company organising fantastic sea trips in the Mediterranean with a very pleasant crew. The trips differ from most others as they take tourists into the ocean and not just sail next to Costa del Sol, offering a unique sailing experience.

Hit the beach

The Malapesquera Beach is one of the busiest beaches in Benalmadena. The beach is known for its excellent facilities, inexpensive parasols, great lifeguard services and lots of communal showers that make is very accommodating to families with young children. Several popular restaurants are lines along the beach, providing great chances to eat authentic tapas and fresh seafood dishes right after a fine swim in the Mediterranean.

The beach at Tajo de la Soga is wild, rarely visited and very scenic. Located almost directly opposite to Benalmadena and overlooking the city from a distance, this is an excellent beach to relax without anyone in sight, even during high season. Several irregular coves and large rocks make the beach even more eerie and create small pockets of absolute privacy where you can literally get lost for hours at a time.

Where to eat & drink

The Nirvana Restaurant is an authentic Indian restaurant in the heart of Benalmadena. Owned and operated by Indian expatriates, the restaurant has earned TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence and numerous other distinctions for its delicious, unadulterated Indian tastes and its incredible dishes that aren’t found anywhere else on Costa del Sol.

Located by Benalmadena’s sandy beach, Smiley’s Restaurant Bar is a popular British eatery that serves foods from back home cooked with a definite Hispanic flair. The food here is familiar yet innovative thanks to a distinct Spanish twist. Living up to its name, Smiley’s is very welcoming, child friendly place and service comes with a smile.

El Dorado is a popular live music and karaoke bar that’s open every night all night throughout the high season in Benalmadena. The bar has an incredibly upbeat atmosphere thanks to the numerous local artists who come to perform here and enthusiastic karaoke performances in various different languages.
