Bavaro, Punta Cana experiences hot and wet weather in October, when the wet season is coming to a close. During this month the average temperature starts off at 27°C and slowly decreases as the month progresses until it is closer to 26°C. With 149mm of rainfall spread across 11 days throughout October, it’s likely that you’ll be subject to a shower or two during your holiday. But with an average sea temperature of 29°C and nine hours of sunshine each day, it shouldn’t cause you too many problems.
Things to do
Bavaro is one of the best places in the Caribbean for snorkelling. Thanks to the protective coral reef which lines the coast at the resort, the waters are teeming with all sorts of marine life. Head to the beach with your mask and snorkel in hand for the chance to swim amongst stingrays, eels and a plethora of multi-coloured fish whilst admiring the coral formations.
Golfers won’t want to miss the chance to play a round or two at the Barcelo Bavaro Golf Course – one of the best on the island. Built in 1991, this stunning 18-hole par-72 championship course is the most visited in the resort and is perfect for professionals and novices alike. In addition to the green which is peppered with mangrove forests, lakes and bunkers, Barcelo Bavaro Golf also features a practise area, golf lessons, shop and bar-restaurant.
Hit the beach
Take advantage of the warm weather by spending a day at Bavaro Beach. This beach stretches on for six miles and is made up of picture-perfect golden sands lapped by warm, clear waters. If you get a bit antsy just sunbathing, head to the water where you can try your hand at the myriad of water sports available, including kayaking, jet skiing, sailing, water skiing, parasailing and scuba diving. With so much to do, you won’t have enough time to get bored!
Dominicus Beach is one of the cleanest and best beaches in the Dominican Republic. Boasting a Blue Flag for its superb facilities and high quality water, this bay is ideal for sunbathing, snorkelling or diving. The soft sands provide the perfect place for you to lie down your towel whilst the clear water is brimming with marine life, making it a top snorkelling spot. There are no bars or restaurants nearby, so make sure you bring your own lunch and snacks.
Where to eat & drink
If you’re not sure where to have lunch, pop into Le Pour á Pain. Located in the Plaza Bolera, this small café provides an outdoor patio which is the ideal place for indulging in some people watching. Here you’ll find top quality coffee as well as a great selection of crepes, salads and sandwiches.
When it comes to Mexican food in Bavaro, it doesn’t get much better than Jalapeño. This restaurant offers plenty of inside and outside seating, so you can dine where you like, whatever the weather. Fantasy Disco is the ideal place for holidaymakers looking for somewhere to dance the night away.
