There is no doubt that December is much cooler than most other months in Ayia Napa, but it is by no means uncomfortable. Tourists will find it pleasant during the daytime and a bit chilly, but not too cold, at night. The average nighttime temperature in December is 9°C, a number that decreases from 11°C to 9°C in the course of the month. The average daytime high temperature is 18°C, decreasing from 20°C in the beginning to 17°C at the end of the month. The average overall daily temperature in November is 14°C, the same as in March and two degrees warmer than the annual low of 12°C in January and February.
The average sea temperature is 20°C. Scuba diving is still an option at this time of the year, but the time for swimming and other water sports is generally considered to be over.
December is by far the wettest month of the entire year in Ayia Napa. The total amount of rainfall is 80mm, almost double the amount of rain that falls in November and significantly more than any other month. In December, there are 11 days of rainfall, which is an annual high as well. The chance that rainfall occurs is lowest on December 1, when it's 34%. On December 31, the probability of precipitation is 42%, which is almost the annual high. The two most likely types of precipitation in December are moderate rain, occurring on 42% of the days with rainfall, and thunderstorms, occurring on 41% of the rainy days. Light rain happens on 14% of those days.
Cloud cover almost reaches its annual high in December as well. While December 1 has 39% cloud cover, December 31 has 46% cloud cover, which is only one digit less than the annual high of 47% in January. The length of the days in December is pretty much constant. December 1 has 9.59 hours of daylight; December 21, the shortest day of the year, has 9.48 daylight hours; and December 31 experiences 9.50 hours of daylight.
The shortness of the days combined with high cloud cover and lots of rainfall makes December the darkest month of the year. An average December day sees 8 hours of sunshine—the annual low, which is also observed in January.
While December may be one of the "worst" months of the year in Ayia Napa, the weather is still much better than that in Britain during this time of year. It never freezes and snow is extremely exceptional and while in December it rains more than it usually does, the temperatures are never really too cold.

The Troodos Mountains are a famous mountain range in Cyprus and well worth a visit. Located in the centre of the island, this is the largest mountain range in the country—well-worth exploring. This area of valleys, ancient villages, mountain peaks and forests makes for an excellent (multi)day trip from Ayia Napa. The villages that are hidden away in the forests on the mountain flanks are home to the famous painted churches of Cyprus, ten of which were declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
