The climate in Albufeira is Mediterranean. Summers are hot and winters are mild. The region experiences very low annual precipitation and buckets of sunshine. The Algarve is one of the sunniest regions in Europe. It is considered a great year-round holiday destination. It is milder than the coast of Spain which is preferable as summers are not as scorching and winters dependably mild.

Like most regions in Portugal; summer weather in Albufeira is generally hot, sunny and visited by refreshing breezes. The coastal winds make Albufeira perfect for water sports such as windsurfing and sailing. While it is highly recommended to venture inland to see the Algarve’s smaller towns, tourists should bear in mind that because of the lack of coastal breezes, interior regions are much hotter.

July and August are the hottest months of the year with average highs of 28ºC. Average highs above 20ºC can be seen from May till October. Early and late summer benefit from the best of Albufeira’s weather; it is hot, sunny and dry, but not as stifling as in the peak months. Summer holidays in Albufeira are guaranteed continuous sunshine.

Between June and September it is exceptionally dry; some months receive no rain at all. Nearer to spring and autumn rainfall does increase to moderate levels but generally falls in short showers.

The Atlantic Ocean is much cooler than the Mediterranean but is still warm enough for swimming from June till November, peaking in August and September at 21ºC.

The weather in the autumn and winter months is generally mild, but tourists will need warm clothing in the evening. January is the coolest month of the year when temperatures drop to a minimum of 9ºC. Winter day temperatures rarely dip below 15ºC. Albureira’s famous beaches still see ample sunshine, around five times more than in the UK. However, Albufeira receives most of its rainfall over the winter months. Wet windy weather is common between November and February and sometimes the resort is visited by violent storms. Towards spring rainfall decreases to frequent light showers and by the end of April it stops being a problem at all.
